FLUID AND LUBRICANTS SPECIFICATION TABLE

()Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 91). For improved vehicle performance, NISSAN recommends the use of unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI number (Research octane number 96).
()For further details, see " SAE VISCOSITY NUMBER ".
()DEXRONTM(tm) III/MERCONTM(tm) or equivalent may also be used. Outside the continental United States and Alaska contact a NISSAN dealership for more information regarding suitable fluids, including recommended brand(s) of DEXRONTM(tm) III/MERCONTM(tm) Automatic Transmission Fluid.
()Using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN Matic K ATF will cause deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.
()For Canada, NISSAN Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), DEXRONTM(tm) III/MERCONTM(tm) or equivalent ATF may also be used.
()Available in mainland U.S.A. through your NISSAN dealer.
()For further details, see "Air conditioner specification label".

Scheme 3

Scheme 3: GASOLINE ENGINE OIL
  1. SAE 5W-30 viscosity oil is preferred for all temperatures. SAE 10W-30 and 10W-40 viscosity oil may be used if the ambient temperature is above -18°C (0°F).
  2. Use of 5W-30 viscosity oil will increase fuel economy.

FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM

  1. Fill the radiator from the filler neck above the radiator upper hose and reservoir tank with clean water and reinstall radiator filler cap.
  2. Run the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
  3. Rev the engine two or three times under no-load.
  4. Stop the engine and wait until it cools down.
  5. Drain the water from the system. Refer to , " «DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-239943-S00213979352006080300000) ".
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until clear water begins to drain from the radiator.

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL

Check the power steering fluid level in the reservoir tank with the engine off.

Use the "HOT" range or the "COLD" range fluid temperatures.

"HOT" range PSF temperature: 50° - 80° C (122° - 176° F)

"COLD" range PSF temperature: 0° - 30° C (32° - 86° F)

Scheme 4: CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
CAUTIONDo not overfill the power steering reservoir tank. Do not reuse any used power steering fluid. Use the recommended power steering fluid. Refer to , " RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS ".

CHECKING FLUID LEAKS

Check the lines for improper attachment and for leaks, cracks, damage, loose connections, chafing and deterioration.

Scheme 5

Scheme 5: CHECKING FLUID LEAKS
  1. Run engine between idle speed and 1,000 rpm. Make sure temperature of fluid in oil tank rises to 60° - 80°C (140° - 176°F).
  2. Turn steering wheel right-to-left several times.
  3. Hold steering wheel at each lock position for five seconds and carefully check for fluid leaks. CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel in a locked position for more than 15 seconds.
  4. If fluid leaks at the connectors are noticed, loosen the flare nut and then retighten to specification. Do not overtighten connector as this can damage O-ring, washer and connector.
  5. If fluid leaks from the power steering oil pump are noticed, check the power steering oil pump. Refer to , " «INSPECTION AFTER DISASSEMBLY»(ref-239953-S38320229402006080400000) ".
  6. Check steering gear boots for accumulation of power steering fluid, indicating a steering gear fluid leak.
