REMOVAL

- Disconnect the following from the A/T control device assembly. A/T selector control cable A/T key interlock cable A/T device connector
- Remove the A/T control device assembly.

Installation is in reverse order of removal.

Scheme 51: Adjustment of A/T Position
- Loosen nut of control cable.
- Place the manual lever and selector lever in "P" position.
- Push the control cable in the direction shown with a force of 9.8 N (1kg, 2.2 lb), and release it. This is in the natural state, tighten control cable nut to specifications. Control cable nut: 14.5 N.m (1.5 kg-m, 11 ft-lb) see scheme 157: Identifying Nut Of Control Cable

- Connect TCM connector. see scheme 189: Connecting TCM Connector
- Install new O-ring in A/T assembly harness connector. CAUTION: Do not reuse O-ring. Apply ATF to O-ring. see scheme 190: Identifying New O-Ring In A/T Assembly Harness Connector
- Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 to bracket. see scheme 191: Identifying A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector
- Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 (with bracket) to control valve with TCM. Tighten A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 bolt to the specified torque. Refer to " «COMPONENTS»(ref-272543-S14003340912007112100000) ". CAUTION: Adjust bolt hole of bracket to bolt hole of control valve with TCM. see scheme 192: Adjusting Bolt Hole Of Bracket
- Install control valve with TCM in transmission case. CAUTION: Make sure that turbine revolution sensor is securely installed into turbine revolution sensor hole. Hang down revolution sensor harness toward outside so as not to disturb installation of control valve with TCM. Adjust A/T assembly harness connector of control valve with TCM to terminal hole of transmission case. see scheme 193: Adjusting A/T Assembly Harness Connector Of Control Valve With TCM Assemble it so that manual valve cutout is engaged with manual plate projection. see scheme 194: Assembling Manual Valve Cutout

- Tighten bolt (1), (2) and (3) temporarily to prevent dislocation. After that tighten them in order (1 --> 2 --> 3). Then tighten other bolts.
- Tighten control valve with TCM bolts to the specified torque. Refer to " «COMPONENTS»(ref-272543-S14003340912007112100000) ". see scheme 196: Identifying TCM Bolt
- Connect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector.
- Securely fasten terminal cord assembly and A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 harness with terminal clips. see scheme 197: Connecting A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector
- Connect revolution sensor connector.
- Securely fasten revolution sensor harness with terminal clip. see scheme 198: Identifying Terminal Clip
- Install oil pan to transmission case. Refer to " «INSTALLATION»(ref-272543-S38677788752007112100000) ".
- Pull up A/T assembly harness connector. CAUTION: Do not damage connector. (Scheme 52): Identifying A/T Assembly Harness Connector
- Install snap ring to A/T assembly harness connector.
- Connect A/T assembly harness connector.
- Connect the negative battery terminal.
- Refill the A/T with fluid and check the fluid level and for fluid leakage. Refer to " «A/T FLUID»(ref-272543-S07470863742007112100000) ". see scheme 200: Identifying A/T Assembly Harness Connector

- Disconnect negative battery terminal.
- Drain A/T fluid. Refer to " «A/T FLUID»(ref-272543-S07470863742007112100000) ".
- Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket. Refer to " «REMOVAL»(ref-272543-S38677788752007112100000) ".
- Straighten terminal clip to free A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 harness.
- Disconnect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector. CAUTION: Do not damage connector. see scheme 201: Connecting A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector
- Remove A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 with bracket from control valve with TCM. see scheme 202: Adjusting Bolt Hole Of Bracket To Bolt Hole Of Control Valve With TCM
- Remove bracket from A/T fluid temperature sensor 2. see scheme 203: Identifying A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector

- Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 to bracket. (Scheme 53): Identifying A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector
- Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 (with bracket) in control valve with TCM. Tighten A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 bolt to the specified torque. Refer to " «COMPONENTS»(ref-272543-S14003340912007112100000) ". - Connect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector.
- Securely fasten A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 harness with terminal clip. see scheme 206: Connecting A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2 Connector
- Install oil pan to transmission case. Refer to " «INSTALLATION»(ref-272543-S38677788752007112100000) ".
- Connect the negative battery terminal.
- Refill the A/T with fluid and check the fluid level and for fluid leakage. Refer to " «A/T FLUID»(ref-272543-S07470863742007112100000) ".

- Remove rear oil seal using suitable tool. CAUTION: Do not scratch rear extension assembly (2WD models) or adapter case assembly (4WD models). (Scheme 54): Identifying Rear Oil Seal

- Install new rear oil seal until it is flush into the rear extension case (2WD models) using Tool or adapter case (4WD models) using suitable tool. Tool number: ST33400001 (J-26082) CAUTION: Apply ATF to rear oil seal. Do not reuse rear oil seal.
- Install transfer to transmission (4WD models). Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-272557-S16016810712007112100000) " (ATX14B) or " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-272557-S13987457852007112100000) " (TX15B).
- Install rear propeller shaft. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-272555-S30384780452007112100000) ".

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the A/T fluid level gauge.
- Remove the LH fender protector.
- Remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS) from the A/T assembly. CAUTION: Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it. Do not disassemble. Do not allow metal filings or foreign material to get on the sensor front edge magnetic area. Do not place in an area affected by magnetism. (Scheme 58): Identifying Crankshaft Position Sensor
- Remove the undercovers using power tool.
- Partially drain the A/T fluid. Refer to " «A/T FLUID»(ref-272543-S07470863742007112100000) ".
- Remove the front crossmember using power tool.
- Remove the starter motor.
- Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-272555-S30384780452007112100000) ".
- Remove the left and right front exhaust tubes. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-272538-S41444938532007112100000) ".
- Remove the A/T selector control cable and bracket from the A/T.
- Disconnect the A/T fluid cooler tubes from the A/T assembly.
- Remove the dust cover from the converter housing.
- Turn the crankshaft to access and remove the four bolts for the drive plate to torque converter. CAUTION: When turning the crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.
- Support the A/T assembly using a transmission jack. CAUTION: When setting the transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug. see scheme 214: Locating Bolts For Drive Plate
- Remove the nuts securing the insulator to the crossmember.
- Remove the crossmember using power tool.
- Tilt the transmission slightly to gain clearance between the body and the transmission, then disconnect the air breather hose.
- Disconnect the A/T assembly harness connector.
- Remove the wiring harness from the retainers.
- Remove the A/T fluid charging pipe.
- Plug any openings such as the A/T fluid charging pipe hole.
- Remove the A/T assembly to engine bolts using power tool.
- Remove A/T assembly from the vehicle using Tool. Tool number: - (J-47002) CAUTION: Secure the torque converter to prevent it from dropping. Secure the A/T assembly the transmission jack. NOTE: The actual special service Tool may differ from Tool shown. see scheme 215: Supporting A/T Assembly With Transmission Jack
Installation is in the reverse order of the removal.
| CAUTION | When replacing an engine or transmission you must make sure the dowels are installed correctly during re-assembly. Improper alignment caused by missing dowels may cause vibration, oil leaks or breakage of drivetrain components. Do not reuse O-rings and copper washers. Refer to " COMPONENTS ". When turning crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine. After converter is installed to drive plate, rotate crankshaft several turns and check to be sure that transmission rotates freely without binding. When tightening the bolts for the torque converter while securing the crankshaft pulley bolt, be sure to confirm the tightening torque of the crankshaft pulley bolt. Refer to " TIMING CHAIN ". |

- When installing the drive plate to torque converter bolts, align the positions of bolts for drive plate with those of the torque converter and temporarily tighten the bolts. Then tighten the bolts with the specified torque.
- After completing installation, fill A/T with fluid and check fluid leakage, fluid level, and the positions of A/T. - Support the A/T assembly using a transmission jack. CAUTION: When setting the transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug.
- Remove the nuts securing the insulator to the crossmember.
- Remove the crossmember using power tool.
- Tilt the transmission slightly to gain clearance between the body and the transmission, then disconnect the air breather hose.
- Disconnect the following: A/T assembly harness connector Neutral-4LO switch connector (ATX14B only) 4LO switch connector (TX15B only) Wait detection switch connector ATP switch connector Transfer motor connector (ATX14B only) Control valve assembly connector (ATX14B only) Transfer control device connector
- Remove the wiring harness from the retainers.
- Remove the A/T fluid charging pipe.
- Plug any openings such as the fluid charging pipe hole.
- Remove the A/T assembly to engine bolts using power tool.
