DESCRIPTION
| WARNING | To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. |
Automatic A/C-heater system is a standard system with added electronically-controlled components to provide automatic temperature and blower speed control. The system is controlled by an auto amplifier which continuously monitors sensors to control discharged air temperature and airflow volume to maintain selected temperature setting.
Note. For A/C-heater system components not described in this article, see MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS - PATHFINDER article.
OPERATIONAL CHECK
- Ensure engine is running and is at normal operating temperature. Check blower. Rotate blower control switch to AUTO position. Rotate blower control switch through all 4 blower speeds. Ensure fan speed operates and increases appropriately. Leave blower on AUTO position.
- Check discharge air. Rotate switch through all mode positions. Ensure all 5 mode positions are functioning appropriately. See «AIR DISTRIBUTION RATIOS»(ref-349-S22622031312000030800000) table.
- Check recirculation. Press recirculation switch. Recirculation indicator light should illuminate. Intake door position should change and blower sound should change slightly. Ensure recirculation switch is canceled in defrost or defrost/foot mode position.
- Check temperature decrease. Set temperature to 65°F (18°C). Ensure cold air is discharged at air outlets.
- Check temperature increase. Set temperature to 85°F (30°C). Ensure hot air is discharged at air outlets.
- Set blower lever to any speed. Press A/C switch. A/C indicator light should illuminate. Ensure compressor clutch engages.
