Using CONSULT Tester
- Access DATA MONITOR MODE. With wiper switch in INT position, CONSULT should display INT SW ON. If CONSULT indicates INT SW ON, go to next step. If CONSULT does not indicate INT SW ON, check wiper switch. See «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-32588) article. If wiper switch is okay, check wiper switch ground circuit and Brown/White wire between wiper switch and BCM for open circuit. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-32731-S36740839292001010900000).
- Access IGN ACC SW in DATA MONITOR mode. Check IGN ACC SW status with ignition switch on and off. If IGN ACC SW indicates on and off as expected, go to next step. If IGN ACC SW does not indicate on and off as expected, check fuse No. 19 (7.5-amp) and check for open or short in Pink/Black wire between fuse panel and BCM. Repair as necessary.
- Access WIPER AMP in ACTIVE TEST mode. Follow procedure on display. Wiper motor should operate. If wiper motor operates, replace BCM. If wiper motor does not operate, check wiper relay. See «FRONT WIPER RELAY»(ref-32731-S24285412022001010900000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If wiper relay is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition to ACC position. Backprobe for voltage between BCM harness connector terminal No. 9 and ground. (Scheme 1) With wiper switch in off position, battery voltage should exist. With wiper switch in INT position, voltage should pulse between 0-12 volts every 2-21 seconds (depending on intermittent wiper volume setting). If voltage is not as specified, replace BCM. If voltage is as specified, check fuse No. 20 (20-amp). Check Light Green wire between fuse and wiper relay and Pink/Black wire between wiper relay and BCM for open or short. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-32731-S36740839292001010900000).
Scheme 1
- Access INT RESIST in DATA MONITOR MODE. With wiper volume switch in short interval position, CONSULT should indicate zero ohms. With wiper volume switch in long interval position, CONSULT should indicate about 1000 ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace BCM. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of intermittent wiper volume switch. See «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-32588) article. Replace wiper switch if necessary. If intermittent wiper volume switch is okay, check continuity of Purple wire between wiper switch and BCM. If Purple wire is okay, check wiper switch ground circuit (Black wire). Repair as necessary.
WIPER & WASHER ACTIVATE INDIVIDUALLY, BUT NOT IN COMBINATION
Check wiper switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If wiper switch is okay, check Purple wire between wiper switch and BCM for open or short. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If Purple wire is okay, replace BCM.
FRONT WIPER RELAY
- Remove relay. Check continuity across relay terminals No. 1 and 2. (Scheme 2) Continuity should exist. Replace relay if continuity does not exist.
- Check continuity across terminals No. 3 and 5. Continuity should not exist. If continuity exists, replace relay.
- Connect battery power across terminals No. 1 and 2. With relay energized, check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 5. Continuity should exist. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
