Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER"
The Supplemental Restraint System such as "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER", used along with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and whether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.

| WARNING | To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer. Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air Bag Module, see the SRS AIRBAG . Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this Service information. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or harness connectors. |
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
| WARNING | When working near the Airbag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Airbag System sensors with the Ignition ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electric power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor(s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing serious injury. When using air or electric power tools or hammers, always switch the Ignition OFF, disconnect the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service. |
Precaution Necessary for Steering Wheel Rotation After Battery Disconnect
Note. This Procedure is applied only to models with Intelligent Key system and NATS (NISSAN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM). Remove and install all control units after disconnecting both battery cables with the ignition knob in the "LOCK" position. Always use CONSULT-III to perform self-diagnosis as a part of each function inspection after finishing work. If DTC is detected, perform trouble diagnosis according to self-diagnostic results.
For models equipped with the Intelligent Key system and NATS, an electrically controlled steering lock mechanism is adopted on the key cylinder.
For this reason, if the battery is disconnected or if the battery is discharged, the steering wheel will lock and steering wheel rotation will become impossible.
If steering wheel rotation is required when battery power is interrupted, follow the procedure below before starting the repair operation.

- Before starting the engine make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat and level surface, then check the oil level. If the engine is already running, turn it off and allow 10 minutes before checking.
- Check that the oil level is within the low (L) to high (H) range as indicated on the dipstick.
- If the engine oil level is out of range, add oil as necessary. Refer to " «FOR NORTH AMERICA : FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS»(ref-382161-S12522039562011011400000) ".
OIL APPEARANCE
- Check the engine oil for a white milky appearance or excessive contamination.
- If the engine oil is milky, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with engine coolant. Repair the broken parts.
OIL LEAKAGE
Check for oil leakage around the following areas
- Oil pan
- Oil pan drain plug
- Oil pressure switch
- Oil filter
- Oil cooler
- Intake valve timing control cover
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve
- Front cover
- Mating surface between cylinder block and cylinder head
- Mating surface between cylinder head and rocker cover
- Crankshaft oil seal (front and rear)
OIL PRESSURE CHECK

- Check the engine oil level. Refer to " «INSPECTION»(ref-382188-S37522985312011011400000) ".
- Remove engine front undercover using power tool.
- Disconnect the oil pressure switch harness connector.
- Remove the oil pressure switch (A).
- Install Tools. Tool number : ST25051001 (J-25695-1) : ST25052000 (J-25695-2)
- Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Check the engine oil pressure with engine running under no-load. Engine oil pressure [Engine oil temperature at 80°C (175°F)] ENGINE SPEED REFERENCE Unit: kPa (kg/cm 2 , psi) Engine Speed Approximate Discharge Oil Pressure Idle speed More than 98 (1.0, 14) 2,000 RPM More than 294 (3.0, 43) CAUTION: If the difference is extreme, check the oil passages and oil pump for leaks and blockages.
- After the inspections, install oil pressure switch as follows: Remove old liquid gasket adhering to oil pressure switch and engine. Apply liquid gasket and tighten oil pressure switch to the specification. Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to " «RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS»(ref-382152-S15373783892011011400000) ". Oil pressure switch torque : 14.8 N.m (1.5 kg-m, 11 ft-lb) After warming up engine, make sure there is no leakage of engine oil with engine running.
Changing Engine Oil
| WARNING | Be careful not to burn yourself, as the engine oil is hot. Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer. Try to avoid direct skin contact with used engine oil. If skin contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or hand cleaner as soon as possible. |

- Remove engine front undercover using power tool.
- Warm up engine, and check for oil leakage from engine components. Refer to " «INSPECTION»(ref-382188-S37522985312011011400000) ".
- Stop engine and wait for 10 minutes.
- Loosen oil filler cap, then remove drain plug.
- Drain engine oil.
- Install drain plug with new washer. CAUTION: Be sure to clean drain plug and install with new washer. Oil pan drain plug : 34.3 N.m (3.5 kg-m, 25 ft-lb)
- Refill with new engine oil. Refer to " «FOR NORTH AMERICA : FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS»(ref-382161-S12522039562011011400000) ". Engine oil capacity (Approximate): ENGINE OIL CAPACITY SPECIFICATION Unit: l (US qt, Imp qt) Drain and refill With oil filter change 6.5 (6-7/8, 5-3/4) Without oil filter change 6.2 (6-1/2, 5-1/2) Dry engine (engine overhaul) 7.6 (8, 6-3/4) CAUTION: The refill capacity depends on the engine oil temperature and drain time. Use these specifications for reference only. Always use the oil level gauge to determine when the proper amount of engine oil is in the engine.
- Warm up engine and check area around drain plug and oil filter for oil leakage.
- Stop engine and wait for 10 minutes.
- Check engine oil level. Refer to " «INSPECTION»(ref-382188-S37522985312011011400000) ".

- Drain the engine oil. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE OIL»(ref-382188-S35512646452011011400000) ".
- Remove the oil filter using Tool. Tool number : KV10115801 (J-38956) WARNING: Be careful not to get burned when the engine and engine oil are hot. CAUTION: The oil filter is provided with a relief valve. Use Genuine NISSAN oil filter or equivalent. When removing, prepare a shop cloth to absorb any engine oil leakage or spillage. Do not allow engine oil to adhere to the drive belts. Completely wipe off any engine oil that adheres to the engine and the vehicle.

- Remove foreign materials adhering to the oil filter installation surface.
- Apply engine oil to the oil seal circumference of the new oil filter.
- Screw the oil filter manually until it touches the installation surface, then tighten it by 2/3 turn. Or tighten to specification. Oil filter : 17.7 N.m (1.8 kg-m, 13 ft-lb)
- Refill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE OIL»(ref-382188-S35512646452011011400000) ".
- Inspect the engine for oil leakage. Follow the "INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION" procedure below.
