Removal and Installation
| WARNING | Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator. |
REMOVAL
| CAUTION | Perform when the engine is cold. |

- Remove the upper radiator mounting bolts and rubbers.
- Remove the A/C condenser bolts and brackets. NOTE: Lift A/C condenser up and forward to remove from radiator.
- Remove A/T oil cooler bolts and oil cooler from radiator and position aside.
- Lift up and remove the radiator. CAUTION: Do not damage or scratch air conditioner condenser, A/T oil cooler or radiator core when removing.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- Refill A/T fluid. Refer to " «CHANGING THE A/T FLUID (ATF)»(ref-382157-S32672343682011011400000) ".
- Refill engine coolant. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-382176-S09561462162011011400000) ".

- Remove the lower and upper radiator shrouds. Refer to " «EXPLODED VIEW»(ref-382176-S07304586572011011400000) ".
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-382166-S33342919592011011400000) ".
- Remove the cooling fan.
- Remove the cooling fan pulley and fan bracket, if necessary.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- Install cooling fan with its front mark "F" facing front of vehicle.
- Refill engine coolant. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-382176-S09561462162011011400000) ".
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- Cooling fan is controlled by ECM. For details, refer to " «DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE»(ref-382156-S09121708952011011400000) ".

| CAUTION | When removing water pump, be careful not to get engine coolant on drive belt. Water pump cannot be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit. |
- Drain engine coolant from the radiator. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-382176-S09561462162011011400000) ". CAUTION: Perform when the engine is cold.
- Remove the engine cooling fan (crankshaft driven type). Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (CRANKSHAFT DRIVEN TYPE)»(ref-382176-S37610131982011011400000) ".
- Remove lower radiator hose.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the water pump. Engine coolant will leak from the cylinder block, so have a receptacle ready below. CAUTION: Handle water pump vane so that it does not contact any other parts.
Scheme 17
- Visually check that there is no significant dirt or rust on the water pump body and vane.
- Make sure there is no looseness in the vane shaft, and that it turns smoothly when rotated by hand.
- Replace the water pump assembly, if necessary.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- After installation bleed the air from the cooling system. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-382176-S09561462162011011400000) ".
Removal of Thermostat
- Partially drain engine coolant from the radiator. Refer to " «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-382176-S09561462162011011400000) ". CAUTION: Perform when engine is cold.
- Disconnect the water suction hose from the water inlet.
- Remove the water inlet, thermostat and rubber ring.
Removal of Thermostat Housing, Water Outlet and Heater Pipe
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-382153-S25579290672011011400000) ".
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-382166-S12622371162011011400000) ". Remove upper radiator hose. Remove water hoses.

- Disconnect the water cut valve connector.
- Disconnect the water hoses from the water cut valve.
- Remove the water cut valve.
Scheme 18
- Place a thread so that it is caught in the valve of the thermostat. Immerse fully in a container filled with water. Heat while stirring.
- The valve opening temperature is the temperature at which the valve opens and falls from the thread.
- Continue heating. Check the full-open lift amount.
- After checking the full-open lift amount, lower the water temperature and check the valve closing temperature. Standard values: VALVE OPENING TEMPERATURE SPECIFICATION Thermostat Valve opening temperature 80 - 84°C (176 - 183°F) Full-open lift amount More than 10 mm/95°C (0.39 in/203°F) Valve closing temperature 77°C (171°F) or higher
