CAUTIONBefore replacing the multivision display, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit, and the communication circuit are normal. (Check that the voltage is 10 V or more.)

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

When the screen of rear view camera is not shown even if the selector or shift lever is "R" (Reverse) position, the rear view camera, the wiring harness, connectors, transmission range switch or multivision display may be defective.

DIAGNOSIS

  1. STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, read the ETACS-ECU diagnostic trouble code. Operate scan tool MB991958 to read the ETACS-ECU option coding information. (Refer to «CODING LIST»(ref-592971-S19444984022014011300000) . Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set to the ETACS-ECU. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU (Refer to «DIAGNOSIS»(ref-592996-S36695968222014011300000) . and then go to Step 2. NO: Go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list. Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. NORMAL CONDITION Item No. Item name Normal conditions 254 IG voltage System positive voltage OK: Normal condition is displayed. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 3. NO: Refer to «INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: ETACS-ECU DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY SIGNAL FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH (IG1)»(ref-592996-S03831290062014011300000) .
  3. STEP 3. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. selector or shift lever is "R" (Reverse) position NORMAL CONDITION Item No. Item name Normal condition 289 shift reverse SW ON OK: Normal condition is displayed. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to step 10 . NO: Go to step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-412 and transmission range switch connector B-122 < CVT > or backup light switch connector B-109 < M/T > for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Are ETACS-ECU connector C-412 and transmission range switch connector B-122 < CVT > or backup light switch connector B-109 < M/T > in good condition? YES: Go to Step 5. NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) .
  5. STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 4) and transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 3) < CVT > or backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 2) < M/T >. Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-28, A-17 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-28, A-17 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) . Q: Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 4) and transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 3) < CVT > or backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 2) < M/T > in good condition? YES: Go to Step 6. NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  6. STEP 6. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-403 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-403 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 7. NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) .
  7. STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-403 (terminal 2) and transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 9) < CVT > or backup light switch B-109 (terminal 1) < M/T >. Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector A-17 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector A-17 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) . Q: Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-403 (terminal 2) and transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 9) < CVT > or backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 1) < M/T > in good condition? YES < CVT >: Go to Step 8. YES < M/T >: Go to Step 9 . NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  8. STEP 8. Check the transmission range switch and the control cable. Check that the transmission range switch and the control cable are adjusted correctly. «TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH AND CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-593043-S03757770942014011300000) Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 9. NO: Adjust the transmission range switch and the control cable.
  9. STEP 9. Check the transmission range switch < CVT > or backup light switch < M/T >. Check for continuity of the transmission range switch. (Refer to «TRANSMISSION RANGE CHECK»(ref-593043-S29593869092014011300000) < CVT >) Check for continuity of the backup light switch. (Refer to «BACKUP LIGHT SWITCH»(ref-593002-S39481987642014011300000) < M/T >) Q: Is the check result normal? YES: The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to «HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION»(ref-592971-S42664974692014011300000) . NO: Replace the transmission range switch < CVT > or backup light switch < M/T >.
  10. STEP 10. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-413 and multivision display connector C-113 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Are ETACS-ECU connector C-413 and multivision display connector C-113 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 11. NO: Repair the defective connector.
  11. STEP 11. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-413 (terminal 2) and multivision display connector C-113 (terminal 24). Check the communication lines for open circuit or short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-26, C-110 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-26, C-110 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) . Q: Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-413 (terminal 2) and multivision display connector C-113 (terminal 24) in good condition? YES: Go to step 12. NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  12. STEP 12. Confirmation in MMCS service mode Perform "Network/Connect Line Check" in the MMCS service mode to check that the communication and wire connection with the rear view camera are OK (Refer to «SERVICE MODE»(ref-592990-S18512196342014011300000) . NOTE: The rear view camera is shown as "rear camera" on the "Network/Connect Line Check" in the service mode of MMCS. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 14 . NO: Go to Step 13.
  13. STEP 13. Check rear view camera connector G-08 and multivision display connector C-109 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Are rear view camera connector G-08 and multivision display connector C-109 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 14. NO: Repair the defective connector.
  14. STEP 14. Check the wiring harness between rear view camera connector G-08 (terminal 3, 1, 4, 5) and multivision display connector C-109 (terminal 83, 81, 82, 86) Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector G-02, C-17, C-110 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector G-02, C-17, C-110 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) . Q: Is the wiring harness between rear view camera connector G-08 (terminal 3, 1, 4, 5) and multivision display connector C-109 (terminal 83, 81, 82, 86) in good condition? YES: Go to Step 15. NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  15. STEP 15. Confirmation in MMCS service mode. Display the VEHICLE SIGNAL CHECK screen. (Refer to «SERVICE MODE»(ref-592990-S18512196342014011300000) . Move the selector or shift lever to the R position and check whether "ON" is displayed. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 16. NO: Replace the multivision display.
  16. STEP 16. Trouble symptom recheck Check that the display of rear view camera is shown normally. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to «HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION»(ref-592971-S42664974692014011300000) . NO: Replace the rear view camera temporarily and go to Step 17.
  17. STEP 17. Trouble symptom recheck Check that the display of rear view camera is shown normally. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Replace the rear view camera. NO: Replace the multivision display.
CAUTIONBefore replacing the multivision display, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit, and the communication circuit are normal. (Check that the voltage is 10 V or more.)

When the screen of rear view camera is not shown even if the shift lever or selector lever is "R" (Reverse) position, the rear view camera, the interior mirror, the wiring harness, connectors, backup light switch or transmission range switch may be defective.

Note. NOTE: If the indicator on the interior mirror is illuminated in orange but the monitor is not displayed, this is not a malfunction as the monitor has been set to always stay OFF.

  1. STEP 1. Check the interior mirror. Check the illumination condition of the indicator. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Move the shift lever or selector lever to the "R" (Reverse) position. Check that the indicator of the interior mirror illuminates. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: Go to 4 .
  2. STEP 2. Check the interior mirror. Check the illumination condition of the indicator. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Move the shift lever or selector lever to the "R" (Reverse) position. Check that the indicator of the interior mirror illuminates in green. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to 0 . NO: Go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Check the interior mirror. Check that the rear view screen is displayed on the monitor of the interior mirror. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Move the shift lever or selector lever to the "R" (Reverse) position. Press the switch of the interior mirror and check that the rear view screen is displayed. NOTE: The illumination color of the indicator of the interior mirror changes from orange to green. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to 0 . NO: Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Using scan tool MB991958, read the ETACS-ECU diagnostic trouble code. Operate scan tool MB991958 to read the ETACS-ECU option coding information (Refer to «CODING LIST»(ref-592971-S19444984022014011300000) Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set to the ETACS-ECU. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU (Refer to , and then go to Step 5. NO: Go to Step 5.
  5. STEP 5. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list. Check the input signal of ACC relay. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. NORMAL CONDITION Item No. Item name Normal conditions 288 ACC switch ON OK: Normal condition is displayed. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 6.   6. STEP 6. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list. Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.   7. STEP 7. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list. Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.   8. STEP 8. Check the inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Is inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 9. NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000)
  9. STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-415 (terminal 9). Check the power supply lines (battery power supply) for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-226 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-226 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) Q: Is the wiring harness between inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-415 (terminal 9) in good condition? YES: Go to Step 10. NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  10. STEP 10. Check the ground circuit to the interior mirror. Measure the resistance at inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 4). Disconnect inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17, and measure the resistance available at the wiring harness side of the connector. Measure the resistance between E-17 (terminal 4) and ground. Q: The resistance should be 2 ohms or less. YES: Go to 18 . NO: Go to Step 11.
  11. STEP 11. Check the wiring harness between inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 4) and ground. Check the ground wire for open circuit. Q: Is the wiring harness between inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 4) and ground in good condition? YES: The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to «HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION»(ref-592971-S42664974692014011300000) NO: Repair the wiring harness.
  12. STEP 12. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-412 and backup light switch connector B-109 or transmission range switch connector B-122 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Are ETACS-ECU connector C-412 and backup light switch connector B-109 or transmission range switch connector B-122 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 13. NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000)
  13. STEP 13. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 4) and backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 2) or transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 3). Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-28 and A-17 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-28 and A-17 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) Q: Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-412 (terminal 4) and backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 2) or transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 3) in good condition?   15. STEP 15. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-403 (terminal 2) and backup light switch connector B-109 (terminal 1) or transmission range switch connector B-122 (terminal 9) . Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector A-17 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. YES: Go to Step 17. NO: Adjust the transmission range switch and the control cable.
  17. STEP 17. Check the backup light switch or transmission range switch .   18. STEP 18. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-413 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-413 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 19. . NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) STEP 19. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-413 (terminal 2) and inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 2). Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-26 and C-226 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-26 and C-226 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) Q: Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-413 (terminal 2) and inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 2) in good condition? YES: Go to Step 20. NO: Repair the wiring harness. STEP 20. Check rear view camera connector G-08 and inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Q: Are rear view camera connector G-08 and inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 in good condition? YES: Go to Step 21. NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) STEP 21. Check the wiring harness between rear view camera connector G-08 (terminal 3, 6, 1, 4) and inside rear view mirror assembly connector E-17 (terminal 5, 6, 12, 11). Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit. NOTE: Also check intermediate connector G-02, C-17, C-132, C-101 and C-226 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector G-02, C-17, C-132, C-101 and C-226 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in «HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION»(ref-592997-S03318112612014011300000) Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Go to Step 22. NO: Repair the wiring harness. STEP 22. Trouble symptom recheck. Check that the display of rear view camera is shown normally. Q: Is the check result normal? STEP 23. Trouble symptom recheck. Q: Is the check result normal? YES: Replace the rear view camera. NO: Replace the interior mirror.
