Engine Controls - Trouble Shooting - No Codes: NVH Mercury Villager II

ENGINE NOISE

  1. Check for loose or worn drive belts.
  2. Check oil level.
  3. Check intake air system. See TEST HU in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
  4. Check EVAP system. See TEST HX in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
  5. Check secondary injection system. See TEST JB in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
  6. Check EGR system. See TEST HE in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
  7. Check engine compression and engine mechanical condition. Check camshaft and valves.
  8. Check for loose components.
  9. Check for loose spark plugs.
  10. Check for cooling system leaks.
  11. Check exhaust system. See TEST HF in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
  12. Check for worn connecting rod bearings, worn main bearings, loose piston pins, or excessive piston to cylinder bore clearance.
  13. Check for detonation (spark knock).

VIBRATION

  1. Check for damaged fan.
  2. Check drive belt components.
  3. Check engine mounts.
  4. Check crankshaft vibration damper.
  5. Check driveline components.
  6. Check for defective tires and wheels.
  7. Check tire balance.
