Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures Mercury Topaz II

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Camber is preset at the factory and cannot be adjusted. If camber is not within specification, repair or replace bent or broken parts.

CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Caster is factory set and is not adjustable. If caster is not to specification, repair or replace bent or broken parts.

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT (FRONT)

Ensure steering wheel is centered. Loosen tie rod end lock nuts. Loosen steering gear dust boot outer retaining clips. While holding tie rod end, rotate tie rod to adjust toe-in. Clean and lubricate tie rod end threads. Tighten tie rod end lock nut to specification. Align steering gear dust boots and install retaining clips.

TEMPO & TOPAZ

Loosen spindle-to-lower arm attaching nut. Rotate adjusting cam to obtain correct toe-in. While holding adjusting cam, tighten rear adjusting cam attaching nut. (Scheme 1)

ESCORT

Loosen rear tie rod adjusting nut "B" and slide tie rod toward rear of vehicle to decrease toe-in. (Scheme 2) Loosen rear tie rod adjusting nut "A" and slide tie-rod toward front of vehicle to increase toe-in. After adjustment is made, tighten both adjusting nuts to specification.
