FWD Models
Front of vehicle may be raised with floor jack by placing jack under front body rail, behind suspension arm-to-body bracket. Rear of vehicle may be raised by placing jack forward of tie rod bracket or under either rear lower control arm-to-chassis mounting bracket
Note. DO NOT lift vehicle by placing jack under front or rear control arms, axle shafts or CV joints.
Cougar, Mustang & Thunderbird
- The front of the vehicle may be lifted by positioning a jack under the center of No. 2 crossmember. The No. 2 crossmember is the crossmember the front lower suspension control arm is attached to. The front end or either side of the rear end may be lifted by positioning floor jack under the rocker flange at contact points used for jack supplied with vehicle.
- On Mustang, to lift both sides of rear at once, position floor jack under differential housing. Make sure that jack does not make contact with differential housing cover. Position jack stands under rear axle housing between suspension arm brackets and differential housing. DO NOT place jack stands under suspension arm brackets.
- On Cougar and Thunderbird, to lift both sides of rear at once, place jacks at both rear frame lift points. (Scheme 3)
Note. On vehicles with air suspension, disconnect electrical power by removing negative battery cable or shutting off air suspension power switch located in trunk. Switch is located in trunk on left front side of inner panel.
Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VII & Town Car
- Either front side of vehicle may be raised by jack contact at lower control arm strut connection, on front crossmember or on side rail to which stabilizer is connected.
- Front of vehicle may be raised by positioning jack under center of front crossmember. Care must be taken not to contact steering linkage or to compress stabilizer link insulators.
- For rear of vehicle, position jack under rear axle housing between suspension arm brackets and differential housing. Do not place jack stand under suspension arm brackets.
BUMPER JACK
A bumper type jack may be used on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VII and Town Car models only. DO NOT raise other vehicles by the bumper at any time.
LIFTING VEHICLE WITH HOIST
| CAUTION | Follow hoist manufacturer's instructions. DO NOT allow hoist or adapters to contact suspension, exhaust or steering components. |
Frame Contact Hoist
On frame contact hoists, adapters must be placed at 4 contact points. Position adapters so they are centered on contact area. All 4 contact points must contact adapters. On FWD vehicles, the rear contact points are located forward of the tie rod-to-body attaching brackets.
Axle Contact Hoist
If an axle contact (twin post) hoist is used to lift a RWD vehicle, place adapters under the front suspension lower control arms. On FWD vehicles, place adapters under front body rail, behind suspension arm-to-body bracket. On Cougar and Thunderbird models, place fork lifts under axle housing inboard of suspension arm brackets.
Note. On Cougar and Thunderbird, DO NOT position hoist pads under No. 3 crossmember, located to the rear of lower suspension control arm crossmember.
