Rear View Mirror System: Removal & Installation Mercury Sable V

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Note. Do not remove the exterior mirror assembly when repairing an individual part. Individual components can be installed without removing the exterior mirror.

Note. Sable and Taurus shown, Taurus X similar.

  1. Remove the sail panel. Pull outward on the sail panel to release the retaining clips. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. Disconnect the exterior mirror electrical connector.
  3. Remove the 3 exterior mirror nuts. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  4. Remove the exterior mirror.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

REMOVAL

Note. Taurus X shown, Sable and Taurus similar.

  1. Disengage the upper outboard mirror glass retaining tab. Position the exterior mirror glass to the full lower inboard position. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver between the upper outboard retaining tab and the exterior mirror glass backing plate. Twist the flat-blade screwdriver to release the retaining tab from the exterior mirror glass backing plate.
  2. Disengage the lower outboard mirror glass retaining tab. Position the exterior mirror glass to the full upper inboard position. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver between the lower outboard retaining tab and the exterior mirror glass backing plate. Twist the flat-blade screwdriver to release the retaining tab from the exterior mirror glass backing plate.
  3. Remove the exterior mirror glass from the exterior mirror motor. Gently pull the outboard side of the exterior mirror glass outward. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.

INSTALLATION

  1. If equipped, connect the electrical connectors.
  2. Position the exterior mirror glass onto the exterior mirror motor.
  3. Place a hand against the back of the exterior mirror and a hand flat against the exterior mirror glass. Position the exterior mirror glass to the full lower inboard position and press the exterior mirror glass to fully seat the retaining tab onto the exterior mirror motor. Position the exterior mirror glass to the full lower outboard position and press the exterior mirror glass to fully seat the retaining tab onto the exterior mirror motor. Position the exterior mirror glass to the full upper outboard position and press the exterior mirror glass to fully seat the retaining tab onto the exterior mirror motor.

  1. Remove the exterior mirror glass. For additional information, refer to «Exterior Mirror Glass»(ref-293465-S25704306752008080700000) .
  2. Remove the 3 exterior mirror motor screws.
  3. Remove the exterior mirror motor. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the exterior mirror glass. For additional information, refer to «Exterior Mirror Glass»(ref-293465-S25704306752008080700000) .
  2. Release the 4 exterior mirror cover retaining tabs.
  3. Remove the exterior mirror cover. Pull outward on the exterior mirror cover.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Remove the sail panel. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. Depress the 2 locking tabs and remove the exterior mirror control switch.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the wire cover.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Insert the special tool between the mirror mount and windshield bracket from the top.
  4. If equipped, separate the compass module from the mirror assembly by disengaging the compass module locking tabs.
  5. Release the mirror mount from the windshield bracket by pulling the tool and mirror down and away from the windshield.
  1. Slide the mirror mount over the windshield bracket from the top and adjust the mirror to the upward position.
  2. Quickly press the mirror assembly downward along the windshield until a click is felt. The click indicates the base is engaged to the windshield bracket.
  3. Connect the electrical connector and wire cover.
  4. If equipped, install the compass module. Check the compass zone and calibration. For additional information, refer to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC), MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES»(ref-293475) article.
