Parking Aid System: Removal & Installation Mercury Sable V

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the instrument panel center finish panel. For additional information, refer to «INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE»(ref-293483) article.
  2. Remove the parking aid switch.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Sedan

  1. Remove the package tray trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-293479) article.
  2. Remove the RH C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-293479) article.
  3. If replacing the parking aid speaker only, proceed as follows: Disconnect the parking aid speaker electrical connector. Disengage the parking aid speaker clips. Remove the parking aid speaker.
  4. If replacing the parking aid module (PAM), proceed as follows: Disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the PAM push pins. Remove the PAM.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Sedan

  1. Remove the rear bumper cover. For additional information, refer to «BUMPERS»(ref-293469) article.
  2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-293448) article.
  3. Disconnect the parking aid sensor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the parking aid sensor(s).
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Paint the sensor(s) with one coat of paint (base coat and clear coat). Using the scan tool, verify that the parking aid sensor PIDs read no object present, and that the parking aid sensor attenuation PIDs read between 0.8-1.6 ms. If the parking aid sensor attenuation PIDs do not read between 0.8-1.6 ms, the paint is too thick on the sensor(s) and it will be necessary to repaint the sensor(s) as required.
