Power Window Control

One-Touch Down (OTD) power window function allows driver's door window glass to completely lower with one button press. Driver's power window control switch is hardwired to Generic Electronic Module (GEM) and door window regulator and motor. When GEM senses a one-touch down request from driver's power window control switch, GEM supplies a ground to OTD Relay coil. OTD relay then provides power to driver's power window regulator motor, lowering window. OTD feature will function when the ignition switch is in RUN or ACC position. OTD feature also operates while ignition is OFF and accessory delay time-out period has not expired. Power and ground are supplied for driver's front power window operation by GEM. All power and ground for passenger power windows is supplied through power window control switches.

Delayed Accessory Power

Delayed accessory power feature controls power to certain accessories in a vehicle referred to as delayed accessories. For 10 minutes after ignition switch has been in LOCK position and while driver's or passenger's front door remains closed, this feature allows delayed accessories to be powered. This is referred to as delay accessory period. Customer can continue to open/close windows during delayed accessory period or until one of the doors is opened. Delayed accessory feature also turns off power to accessories while vehicle is starting to prevent excessive battery drainage.

FRONT DOOR WINDOW GLASS

Remove door trim panel and watershield. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Lower door window 3" (76.2 mm) from full up position. See STEP 1 in (Scheme 13). Loosen bracket nuts securing window regulator equalizer bracket. See STEP 2 in (Scheme 13). With front door open, place hands on each side of front door window glass and pull front door window glass fully into front door window glass top run. See STEP 3 in (Scheme 13). Push door window regulator equalizer bracket down. Tighten bracket nuts to 106 INCH lbs. (12 N.m). See STEP 4 in (Scheme 13). Open and close window to verify proper operation and alignment. Install watershield and door trim panel.

SYSTEM TESTS

CAUTIONDisconnect negative battery cable before disconnecting Generic Electronic Module (GEM) harness connectors. Failure to do so will result in GEM storing erroneous codes and may also result in erratic operation of GEM after reconnecting. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Remove master power window control switch from vehicle. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between specified terminals while operating switch to specified position. See MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING table. see scheme 9 If continuity is not as specified, replace master power window control switch.

MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING

SINGLE POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

Remove single switch from vehicle. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between specified terminals while operating switch to specified position. See SINGLE SWITCH TESTING table. see scheme 12 Replace switch if continuity is not specified.

SINGLE SWITCH TESTING

Mini ISO Relay

  1. Remove mini ISO relay. Measure resistance between appropriate relay terminals. See «MINI ISO RELAY RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-63217-S18258889882001012400000) table. (Scheme 14) If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace relay.   2. Using a fused jumper wire, connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 85. Using another jumper wire, ground terminal No. 86. (Scheme 14) Measure resistance between relay terminals No. 30 and 87. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. Also measure resistance between relay terminals No. 30 and 87a, resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are as specified, relay is okay. If any resistance is not as specified, replace relay.

Micro ISO Relay

  1. Remove relay to be tested. Measure resistance between terminal No. 5 and all other terminals. (Scheme 15) If all resistances are greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance reading is 5 ohms or less, replace relay.
  2. Measure resistance between terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace relay.
  3. Apply battery voltage and ground between terminals No. 1 and 2. (Scheme 15) Measure resistance between terminals No. 3 and 5. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. And measure resistance between terminals No. 3 and 4. Resistance should be greater than 5 ohms. If all resistances are as specified, relay is okay. If any resistance is not as specified, replace relay.

POWER WINDOW MOTOR

Disconnect power window motor harness connector for inoperative window. Using jumper wires, connect battery power and ground to power window motor connector terminals. see scheme 7 To reverse motor direction, reverse polarity of jumper wires. Motor should operate rapidly in both directions. Replace motor if necessary.

GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE

Note. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
