Programmable Module Installation
Programmable Module Installation (PMI) method is used when a new programmable module is installed. Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester automatically obtains any valuable module option content information from old module during vehicle ID routine that runs when diagnostic tool tester is initially connected to vehicle. It is important to connect diagnostic tool tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and radio. (Схема №1) Allow it to identify the vehicle and obtain configuration data prior to removing any module.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Proper grounding of technician and workplace is essential to prevent damage. Prior to removal of modules, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester. This information needs to be downloaded into new module once installed. See MODULE CONFIGURATION under PROGRAMMING. |
Note. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See appropriate COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
ABS control module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) are a complete assembly. For replacement procedure of ABS control module, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Locate Generic Electronic Module (GEM) behind left side of instrument panel, next to central junction box. (Схема №2) Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connectors. (Схема №11) Release GEM locking tab. Slide GEM off mounting bracket. To install, reverse removal procedure.
For replacement procedure of remote climate control module, see REMOTE CLIMATE CONTROL (RCC) MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C - HEATER SYSTEMS - SABLE & TAURUS article.
For replacement procedure of restraint control module, see RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
