MODULE CONFIGURATION
Note. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has to be flash programmed using a flash cable. See FORD MOTOR CO. under COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
Programmable Parameters
Programmable parameters are controlled features that can be modified while in service, typically by the customer. If a module that has been modified by programmable parameters needs replacement, Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure will maintain parameters in their altered state if Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester was able to communicate with old module during Vehicle Identification (VID) routine. If diagnostic tool tester was not able to communicate with old module during VID routine, programmable parameters may be used to return controlled features to their altered state.
SYSTEM TESTS
| CAUTION | Be careful when probing the Central Junction Box (CJB), Battery Junction Box (BJB) or any connectors. Damage will result to connector receptacle if probe or terminal being used is too large. |
| CAUTION | Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. |
Note. If DTCs are recorded and symptom is not present when carrying out pinpoint tests, an intermittent concern may be the cause. Always check for loose connections and corroded connector pins.
Note. Tests included in this article are written specifically for Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester and New Generation Star (NGS) tester functionality. Other OBD II-compatible scan tools may be used, but may not be equipped with equal test function capabilities. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions.
Note. Before performing any system tests, inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and radio. (Схема №1) Pay particular attention to terminals No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire), No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire). Always check control module power and ground circuits prior to replacing a control module.
