PRELIMINARY CHECKS
- Check fuses in interior fuse panel and maxi-fuses in underhood power distribution box. Replace as necessary. Visually inspect wiring harness for obvious signs of damage. NOTE: Left front window must be in full up position while performing self-diagnostics.
- If concern remains after checking fuses and wiring harness, perform self-diagnostics on the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). Self-diagnostics are carried out using Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-29127) article for further information.
- If self-diagnostics is completed and no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are retrieved, continue with TROUBLE SHOOTING, then go to appropriate symptom related test (if necessary). If self-diagnostics is completed and DTCs are retrieved, go to appropriate DTC test in this article. If a DTC is retrieved from GEM and the correct test is not in this article, refer to DTC chart for GEM in «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-29127) article for a brief explanation of DTC. The DTC chart should direct you to correct article to find testing procedure.
- If a communication problem exists with GEM, go to PINPOINT TEST A under TESTING. Also, see «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-29127) article for data bus diagnostics and repair procedures.
ALL POWER WINDOWS INOPERATIVE
Confirm concern, operate all switches. Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure windows are properly aligned. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction
- Faulty fuse.
- Open or shorted supply circuit.
- Loose or corroded connectors.
- Poor ground connections.
- Faulty Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
- Faulty master switch. See «MASTER SWITCH»(ref-29262-S26124222132001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTING.
ONE POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE
Confirm concern. Ensure window in question is properly aligned. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction
- Damaged track or regulator mechanism.
- Faulty window switch.
- Faulty window motor.
- Open or shorted circuit.
ONE-TOUCH DOWN FEATURE INOPERATIVE
Confirm concern. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction
- Malfunctioning switch. See switch test under «COMPONENT TESTING»(ref-29262-S36266272112001010800000) .
- Open or shorted circuit. Check circuits between master switch and single switch.
- Power or ground circuits open or shorted.
- Faulty Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
WINDOW STUCK/BINDING
Confirm concern. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction
- Damaged window tracks.
- Damaged regulator.
MASTER SWITCH
Note. In wiring diagram, master switch connectors are labeled as C501 and C509. In master switch test, connector C501 is referred to as connector C2, and connector C509 is referred to as connector C1. Identification has been changed for test references only.
Remove master switch from vehicle. Measure resistance between specified terminals while operating switch. See MASTER SWITCH TESTING TABLE. (Scheme 3) Replace switch if resistance between specified terminals is greater than 5 ohms. DO NOT check resistance between terminals not specified.

Remove single switch from vehicle. Measure resistance between specified terminals while operating switch. See SINGLE SWITCH TESTING TABLE. (Scheme 4) Replace switch if resistance between specified terminals is greater than 5 ohms. DO NOT check resistance between terminals not specified.

WINDOW MOTOR
Disconnect window motor harness connector for inoperative window. Using jumper wires, connect battery power and ground to window motor connector terminals. To reverse motor direction, reverse polarity of jumper wires. Motor should operate rapidly in both directions. Replace motor if necessary.
DELAYED ACCESSORY RELAY COIL SHORTED TO POWER
- Check Accessory Delay PID Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, access ACCDLY from PID menu. If PID reads SHORTVBAT, go to next step. If PID does not read SHORTVBAT, replace accessory delay relay.
- Check Fuse Junction Panel Disconnect fuse panel connector C1. see scheme 4 Measure voltage between ground and delay relay socket terminal No. 85. If battery voltage exists, replace fuse junction panel. If battery voltage does not exist, replace GEM.
Scheme 5
- Check Left Front Window Up Operation Turn ignition on. Press left front window up switch. If window goes up, go to next step. If window does not go up, go to step 4).
- Check Signal From GEM Remove one-touch relay (located in fuse junction panel). Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance between one-touch down relay socket terminal No. 85 and ground. see scheme 3 Using NGS scan tester, access ACTIVE COMMANDS. Select ONE TOUCH DOWN and ACCDLY from PID menu. Press trigger to activate relays. Measure resistance at terminal No. 85. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace one-touch down relay and retest. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check For Open In Fuse Panel Disconnect fuse panel connector C1. see scheme 4 Measure resistance between connector C1, terminal No. 7 and one-touch relay socket terminal No. 85. see scheme 3 If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace fuse junction panel.
- Check Power To One-Touch Relay Remove one-touch relay. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and one-touch relay socket terminals No. 86 and 87 individually. If battery voltage exists, go tostep 10). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check Door Lock Operation Operate power door locks. If power door locks operate, go to step 8). If power door locks do not operate, go to next step.
- Check Power To Fuse Junction Panel Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C3. (Scheme 5) Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at connector C3, terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). If battery voltage exists, replace fuse junction panel. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. (Scheme 5): Identifying Fuse Junction Panel Connector C3 Terminals
- Check Black/White Wire For Short Remove maxi-fuse No. 4 (30-amp) from power distribution box. Measure resistance between fuse junction panel connector C3, terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, repair open Black/White wire. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/White wire. Replace fuse and retest system.
- Check For Open Fuse Panel Remove accessory delay relay. Measure resistance between delay relay socket terminal No. 87 and one-touch down relay socket terminal No. 87. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace fuse junction panel.
- Check Power To Delay Relay Using voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at delay relay socket terminal No. 30. If battery voltage exists, replace accessory delay relay. If battery voltage does not exist, replace fuse junction panel.
- Check For Shorted One-Touch Relay Remove one-touch relay. Measure resistance between ground and one-touch relay socket terminal No. 85. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace one-touch relay.
- Check For Shorted GEM Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel. Remove one-touch relay from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between one-touch relay socket terminal No. 85 and ground. see scheme 3 If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, replace fuse junction panel. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM and retest system.
ONE-TOUCH RELAY CIRCUIT OPEN
- Check Left Front Window PID Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, access LFPWRLY PID from GEM. If PID reads SHORTVBAT, go to next step. If PID does not read SHORTVBAT, inspect relay terminals for corrosion or damage and repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, repeat self-test.
- Check For Shorted Relay With LFPWRLY PID still accessed, remove one-touch relay. If PID still reads SHORTVBAT, go to next step. If PID no longer reads SHORTVBAT, replace relay.
- Check Fuse Junction Panel Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel. Remove one-touch relay from fuse junction panel. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between one-touch relay socket terminal No. 86 and ground. see scheme 3 If battery voltage exists, replace fuse junction panel and retest system. If battery voltage does not exist, replace GEM and retest system.
Scheme 6
- Check Down Circuit For Short Remove one-touch relay from fuse junction panel. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at terminal No. 87A of one-touch relay socket. see scheme 3 If battery voltage exists, go to step 3). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check Up Circuit For Short With one-touch relay removed from fuse junction panel, turn ignition on. Using voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at terminal No. 30 of one-touch relay socket. If battery voltage exists, go to step 6). If battery voltage does not exist, replace one-touch relay.
- Check For Shorted Switch Disconnect left front window switch. Measure voltage at one-touch relay terminal No. 87A. If battery voltage exists, go to step 8). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check White/Black Wire For Short To Power Measure voltage on White/Black wire at left front window switch harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace left front window switch and retest system.
- Check For Shorted GEM Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel connector. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at one-touch relay socket terminal No. 30. see scheme 3 If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace GEM. Retest system.
- Check Fuse Panel For Short To Power Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. (Scheme 6) Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at harness connector C4, terminal No. 25 (Orange/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace fuse junction panel. Retest system. (Scheme 6): Identifying Fuse Junction Panel Connector C4 Terminals
- Check Orange/White Wire For Short To Power Disconnect left front window switch. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at harness connector C4, terminal No. 25 (Orange/White wire). If battery voltage exists, repair Orange/White wire for short to power. If battery voltage does not exist, repair White/Black wire for short topower.
- Check Tan/Light Blue Wire For Short To Power Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. (Scheme 6) Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at one-touch relay socket terminal No. 87A. see scheme 3 If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Tan/Light Blue wire for short to power. Retest system.
- Check GEM Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel connector. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at one-touch relay socket terminal No. 87A. see scheme 3 If battery voltage exists, replace fuse junction panel. If battery voltage does not exist, replace GEM. Retest system.
LEFT FRONT WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT FAILURE
Note. If other codes are retrieved along with this code, service other codes first.
- Check PID Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, access D_PWAMP PID from GEM. Press left front power window switch up. If PID indicates no current, go to next step. If PID indicates current, go to step. 6).
- Check Resistance To Motor Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. (Scheme 6) Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 25 at connector C4 (fuse junction panel side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 4).
- Check Fuse Junction Panel Disconnect connector C1 from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between fuse junction panel connector C1, terminal No. 2 and connector C4 terminal No. 25. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace fuse junction panel.
- Check Orange/White Wire Disconnect left front window motor harness connector. Measure resistance of Orange/White wire between connector C4, terminal No. 25 and left front window motor harness connector. (Scheme 6) If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistan ce is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/White wire.
- Check White/Black Wire Measure resistance of White/Black wire between fuse junction panel connector C4, terminal No. 1 and left front window motor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace window motor. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open White/Black wire. Restore all electrical connections and retest system.
- Check Orange/White Wire For Short Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. (Scheme 6) Measure resistance of Orange/White wire between connector C4, terminal No. 25 and ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to step 8).
- Check Motor For Short To Ground Disconnect left front window motor. Measure resistance of Orange/White wire between connector C4, terminal No. 25 and ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace window motor. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair shorted Orange/White wire.
- Check Fuse Junction Panel Ensure fuse junction panel connector C4 is disconnected. Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between fuse junction panel connector C1, terminal No. 2 and ground. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, replace fuse junction panel. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. Retest system.
NO COMMUNICATION WITH GEM
- Remove fuse No. 23 (5-amp) from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between fuse No. 23 output cavity (right side) and ground. Observe ohmmeter reading. Resistance should start at more than one megohm and steadily drop to less than 3 k/ohms. If resistance drops as described, go to step 7). If resistance does not drop as described, go to next step.
- With ohmmeter connected as in step 1), measure resistance. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, go to step 4). If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step.
- Remove Generic Electronic Module (GEM) from back side of fuse junction panel. Disconnect, then reconnect ohmmeter as in step 1). If resistance is one megohm or more (resistance may drop steadily to less than 3 k/ohms), replace GEM and retest system. If resistance is not more than one megohm, go to next step.
- Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. Measure resistance between fuse No. 23 output cavity. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace fuse junction panel and retest system. If resistance is not less than 10 k/ohms, reconnect fuse junction connector. If vehicle is equipped with Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)/Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP), go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with PATS/RAP, go to step 7).
- Disconnect PATS module connector. Disconnect, then reconnect ohmmeter as in step 1). Observe ohmmeter reading. Resistance should start more than one megohm and steadily drop to less than 3 k/ohms. If resistance drops as described, replace PATS module and retest system. If resistance does not drop as described, go to next step.
- Disconnect RAP module connector C2. Disconnect, then reconnect ohmmeter as in step 1). If resistance is one megohm or more, replace RAP module and retest system. If resistance is not more than one megohm, repair short to ground in White/Yellow wire and retest system.
- Disconnect GEM connector C2. Measure resistance to ground between GEM connector C2, terminals No. 14 (Black wire) and No. 23 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in Black wires. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect GEM connector C4. Measure resistance between GEM connector C4, terminal No. 12 (Black/White wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Black/White wire for open or high resistance. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect GEM connector C3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between GEM connector C3, terminal No. 14 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to step 11). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Check fuse No. 12 in fuse junction panel. If fuse is good, repair open in Red/Yellow wire and retest system. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system.
- Measure resistance between GEM connector C4, terminal No. 22 (Black/Light Green wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, system is normal at this time. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Green wire. Retest system.
- Check Window Operation Operate passenger windows from driver's master power window switch. If windows operate, go to «PINPOINT TEST C»(ref-29262-S38451033372001010800000). If windows do not operate, go to next step.
- Check Power To Switch Disconnect driver's window switch connector. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at driver's switch harness connector Light Blue/Black wire. If battery voltage exists, go to step 4). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check Light Blue/Black Wire For Short To Ground Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C4. (Scheme 6) Measure resistance between ground and connector C4 terminal No. 23. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue/Black wire. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Check Ground Circuit Continuity Measure resistance between ground and switch harness connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace window switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire.
- Check Master Switch Remove master power window switch. Test master switch. See «MASTER SWITCH»(ref-29262-S26124222132001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace master switch if necessary. If master switch is okay, reinstall switch and go to next step.
- Check Power To Motor Disconnect window motor harness connector for inoperative window. Connect a test light or voltmeter between suspect window motor harness connector terminals. Turn ignition on and operate master switch up and down for inoperative window. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, ensure window tracks and mechanisms are not causing window to bind and repair if necessary. If window is not binding, replace window motor.
- Check Motor Circuit Continuity Remove single window switch for inoperative window. Measure resistance of circuits between inoperative window motor and single switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-29262-S39687627322001010800000) for wire color identification. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open wire in question.
- Switch Circuit Continuity Remove power window master switch. Measure resistance of circuits between single switch for inoperative window and master switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-29262-S39687627322001010800000) for wire color identification. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace single switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open wire in question.
