Normal Operation
When the key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, the key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch) closes circuit 1414 (LG/VT) to the instrument cluster. The 12-volt input signals the instrument cluster the key is inserted. If the instrument cluster detects that the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position with the key inserted in the ignition lock cylinder and the driver door is ajar, the key-in-ignition warning chime (located in the instrument cluster) sounds.
The headlamp on warning chime sounds when the driver door is opened, the key is out of the ignition, and the SJB sends the data to the instrument cluster to detect the instrument illumination lamps are on. The autolamps must be turned OFF for the headlamp on reminder chime to operate.
The instrument cluster sounds the warning chime when the driver door is open and the ignition switch is in the OFF position, and/or the headlamps are left on.
The RCM sends a signal to the instrument cluster through circuit 1083 (LB/PK) if it detects the air bag warning lamp has not been illuminated upon a request from the RCM. This signal activates the redundant air bag warning chime.
When a button on the message center is pressed, a signal is sent to the instrument cluster. Upon receiving a signal, the instrument cluster produces a chime to acknowledge the key stroke to the driver.
When a turn signal is activated, a signal is sent to the instrument cluster. The signal remains active as long as the turn signal is on.
