TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The electronic ignition (El) system is a coil-on-plug ignition system. The coil-on-plug ignition system consists of the following components

  1. coil-on-plug
  2. spark plugs
  3. crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
  4. camshaft position (CMP) sensor

The coil-on-plugs

  1. change low voltage signals from the powertrain control module (PCM) to high voltage pulses.
  2. produce the high voltage pulses to the spark plugs.
  3. are connected directly to each spark plug.

The spark plugs

  1. change high voltage pulses into a spark which ignites the fuel and air mixture.

The CKP sensor

  1. is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. is triggered by a 36-minus-l tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.
  3. provides base timing and crankshaft speed (rpm) to the PCM.

The CMP sensor

  1. is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. provides camshaft rotational location information to the PCM.
