- A1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the voltage between the SJB, harness side and ground as follows: SJB CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE SJB Connector-Pin Circuit C2280b-2 1695 (YE/WH) C2280b-3 54 (LG/YE) C2280b-29 1682 (RD/LB) Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A2. No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A2 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C2080. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-10, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to A3. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A3 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH Carry out the multifunction switch component test. Refer to «COMPONENT TESTING»(ref-233779) article for component testing. Is the multifunction switch OK? Yes : GO to A4. No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-232258) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1033 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280e. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-13, circuit 1033 (RD/YE), harness side and the SJB C2280e-1, circuit 1033 (RD/YE), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to A5. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-232247) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

- B1 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C2080. Carry out the multifunction switch component test. Refer to «COMPONENT TESTING»(ref-233779) article for component testing. Is the multifunction switch OK? Yes : GO to B2. No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-232258) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1033 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280e. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-13, circuit 1033 (RD/YE), harness side and the SJB C2280e-1, circuit 1033 (RD/YE), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to B3. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 160 (DB/WH) (LH HEADLAMP) OR CIRCUIT 161 (DG/OG) (RH HEADLAMP) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: Inoperative Headlamp. Measure the resistance between the inoperative headlamp connector, harness side and ground as follows: INOPERATIVE HEADLAMP CONNECTOR REFERENCE Inoperative Headlamp Connector-Pin (Escape) Connector-Pin (Mariner) Circuit LH Headlamp C1021-7 C1021-1 160 (DB/WH) RH Headlamp C1041-7 C1041-1 161 (DG/OG) Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to B4. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B4 CHECK CIRCUIT 785 (BK/LG) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280b-32, circuit 785 (BK/LG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to B5. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-232247) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

Yes : GO to C3. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 54 (LG/YE) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280b-2, circuit 54 (LG/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to C4. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. - F1 VERIFY THE HEADLAMP OPERATION Key in OFF position. NOTE: Make sure the multifunction switch is not in the high beam position. Make sure the multifunction switch is in the OFF position. Are the low beam headlamps illuminated? Yes : If equipped with autolamps, GO to F2. If not equipped with autolamps, GO to F3 . No : GO to F6 .
- F2 CHECK THE AUTOLAMP SYSTEM Observe the parking lamps. Are the parking lamps illuminated with the headlamps? Yes : REFER to «AUTOLAMPS»(ref-232250-S40250497582006051600000) to diagnose the autolamp system. No : GO to F3.
- F3 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH (LOW BEAM) Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C2080. Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? Yes : GO to F4. No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-232258) . CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F4 CHECK CIRCUITS 160 (DB/WH) AND 161 (DG/OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280b. Does the LH or RH headlamp continue to illuminate? Yes : REPAIR circuit 160 (DB/WH) (LH headlamp) or 161 (DG/OG) (RH headlamp) as necessary. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to F5.
- F5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1033 (RD/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280e. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-13, circuit 1033 (RD/YE), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to F9 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F6 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH (HIGH-BEAM) Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C2080. Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? Yes : GO to F7. No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-232258) . CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F7 CHECK CIRCUITS 1724 (WH/LG) AND 1779 (DB/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Does the LH or RH headlamp continue to illuminate? Yes : REPAIR circuit 1724 (WH/LG) (LH headlamp) or 1779 (DB/LG) (RH headlamp) as necessary. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to F8.
- F8 CHECK CIRCUITS 12 (LG/BK) AND 196 (DB/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280e. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-2, circuit 12 (LG/BK), harness side and ground; and between the multifunction switch C2080-1, circuit 196 (DB/OG), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to F9. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new or SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-232247) . CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

- G1 VERIFY THE HEADLAMP OPERATION Key in ON position. NOTE: Make sure the multifunction switch is in the low beam position. Place the multifunction switch to the headlamps ON position. Place the multifunction switch to the high beam and then low beam positions while observing the headlamps. Do the high beam and low beam headlamps operate correctly? Yes : GO to G2. No : GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-232250-S18019165292006051600000) . for correct diagnosis.
- G2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C2080. Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the multifunction switch C2080-1, circuit 196 (DB/OG), harness side and the multifunction switch C2080-10, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side. Do the high beam headlamps illuminate? Yes : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-232258) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to G3.
- G3 CHECK CIRCUIT 196 (DB/OG) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280e. Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-1, circuit 196 (DB/OG), harness side and the SJB C2280e-15, circuit 196 (DB/OG), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to G4. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new or SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-232247) .
