TROUBLE SHOOTING

Verify customer concern by operating windows to duplicate condition. Ensure window(s) in question is properly aligned. Check for damaged track or regulator mechanism, malfunctioning window motor, damaged wiring, damaged switches, poor electrical connections and blown fuses. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If no problems were found, repair power windows by symptom. See SYMPTOM CHART table under SYSTEM TESTS.

TEST A: ALL POWER WINDOWS COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove fuse No. 21 (40-amp) from instrument panel fuse box. Inspect fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's power window control switch harness connector C74. Measure resistance in Green/Blue wire between output side of fuse No. 21 in instrument panel fuse box and terminal No. 2 at driver's window control switch harness connector C74. (Scheme 1) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Green/Blue wire.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black wire) at driver's power window control switch harness connector C74. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Test driver's power window control switch. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-4322-S30117475542000061900000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, verify customer concern. If switch is defective, replace driver's power window control switch.

TEST B: DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE

  1. Ensure driver's window is up. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's power window control switch harness connector C74. Test driver's power window control switch. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-4322-S30117475542000061900000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is defective, replace driver's power window control switch.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect one-touch down relay harness connector C738. Measure resistance in Yellow/Green wire between terminal No. 7 at driver's power window control switch harness connector C74 and terminal No. 3 at one-touch down relay harness connector C738. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Green wire) at one-touch down relay harness connector C738. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If both resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. If either resistance reading is not as specified, repair open and/or short to ground in Yellow/Green wire.
  3. Measure resistance between one-touch down relay terminals No. 3 and 5. (Scheme 3) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace one-touch down relay.
  4. Disconnect driver's power window motor harness connector C782. Measure resistance in Yellow wire between driver's power window motor harness connector C782 and terminal No. 5 at one-touch down relay harness connector C738. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (Yellow wire) at one-touch down relay harness connector C738. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If both resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. If either resistance reading is not as specified, repair open and/or short to ground in Yellow wire.
  5. Connect driver's power window control switch harness connector C74. Measure resistance in White wire between ground and driver's power window motor harness connector C782. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace driver's power window motor. See «WINDOW MOTOR»(ref-4322-S19080942702000091100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in White wire.

TEST C: PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE

Note. On passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 there are 2 White/Violet wires and 2 Yellow/Violet wires.

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect passenger's power window control switch harness connector C2125 (on driver's door). Test switch. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-4322-S30117475542000061900000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is defective, replace driver's power window control switch.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door). Measure resistance in White/Violet wire between terminal No. 6 at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door) and terminal No. 1 at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C2125 (on driver's door). (Scheme 1) Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (White/Violet wire) at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If both resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. If either resistance reading is not as specified, repair open and/or short to ground in White/Violet wire.
  3. Measure resistance in Yellow/Violet wire between terminal No. 3 at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door) and terminal No. 7 at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C2125 (on driver's door). Resistance should be 5 ohms or less. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Violet wire) at passenger's power window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If both resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. If either resistance reading is not as specified, repair open and/or short to ground in Yellow/Violet wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 2 (Green/White wire) at passenger's window control switch harness connector C489 (on passenger's door). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Green/White wire.
  5. Test passenger's side switch (on passenger's door). See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-4322-S30117475542000061900000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is defective, replace passenger's power window control switch.
