IDLE MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT

Note. Idle mixture is not adjustable. If idle mixture is incorrect, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) ADJUSTMENT

Note. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is not adjustable. Replace TPS if sensor is not within specification.

Note. For 1.8L M/T throttle position switch procedures and specifications, see CIRCUIT TEST STG in G - EEC TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.

Scheme 1

Scheme 1: 1.8L A/T & 2.2L
  1. Remove TPS connector. Using jumper wire, attach SIGRTN and VREF terminals between wiring harness connector and TP sensor. (Scheme 1) Attach positive lead of voltmeter to sensor TP terminal and negative lead to SIGRTN terminal. Turn ignition on. Slowly depress accelerator pedal.
  2. Compare voltage to specifications shown in «TPS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS (1.8L A/T & 2.2L)»(ref-22730-S33209684012001010300000). If voltage is not as specified, ensure throttle stop screw and linkage are adjusted correctly. Remove sensor and check for damaged, corroded or misadjusted pins. If okay, install sensor. Ensure sensor is seated correctly. Repeat step 1). If TPS is still not within specification, replace sensor.
