- Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the oil pan gasket. Clean all sealing surfaces on the engine and the oil pan with metal surface prep and install a new oil pan gasket. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
- Apply a 10 mm (0.40 in) diameter dot of silicone sealer to the areas indicated. NOTE: The oil pan must be installed and the bolts tightened within 4 minutes of sealant application.
- Position the oil pan and loosely install the bolts and stud bolts.
- Install the 2 oil pan-to-transaxle bolts. Tighten to 40 N.m {4.1 kg. m, 30 ft. lb.}.
- Tighten the oil pan-to-engine bolts and stud bolts in the sequence shown in figure to 25 N.m {2.5 kg. m, 18 ft. lb.}.
- Install the access cover.
- Install a new oil filter. Tighten to 5 N.m {5.5 kg. m, 44 in. lb.} and then rotate an additional 180 degrees. NOTE: Lubricate the engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil prior to installing.
- Install the flexible exhaust pipe. See EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
| CAUTION | During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages or the oil pan may cause engine failure. |

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
- Remove the oil pan. See OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the bolts, nut and the oil pump screen and pick-up tube. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
Scheme 29
- Install a new O-ring seal on the oil pump screen and pickup tube. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
- Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube. Position the oil pump screen and pick up tube. Install the bolts and tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kg. m, 89 in. lb.}.
- Install the oil pan. See OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
OIL PAN BAFFLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
| CAUTION | During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages or the oil pan may cause engine failure. |

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
- Remove the oil pump screen cover and tube. See OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the 8 nuts and the oil pan baffle. To install, tighten the 4 M6 oil pan baffle nuts in 2 stages. Stage 1: Tighten to 5 N.m {0.5 kg. m, 44 in. lb.}. Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 degrees. Then install and tighten the 4 M8 oil pan baffle nuts in 2 stages. Stage 1: Tighten to 15 N.m {1.5 kg. m, 133 in. lb.}. Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 degrees.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
| CAUTION | During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, may cause engine failure. |
