Removal and Installation

LH side

  1. Remove the air cleaner. See «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION -- 3.0L»(ref-348656-S06903233342009112700000) .

RH side

  1. Remove the upper intake manifold. See «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION -- 3.0L»(ref-348656-S21659212132009112700000) . NOTE: The upper intake manifold must be removed to access the RH spark plugs only.

Both sides

  1. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  2. Remove the bolts and the ignition coils. Tighten to 7 N.m {0.7 kgf.m, 62 in.lbf}. NOTE: When removing the ignition coil-on-plugs, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots before attaching to the spark plugs.

  1. Remove the air cleaner. See «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION -- 3.0L»(ref-348656-S06903233342009112700000) .
  2. Remove the spark plugs. Tighten to 15 N.m {1.5 kgf.m, 133 in.lbf}. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug. NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material in the spark plug well prior to removing the spark plugs.
  3. Inspect the spark plugs. See «SPARK PLUG INSPECTION»(ref-373094-S07090659102010100600000) .
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Adjust the gap as necessary.
