ABBREVIATIONS

IDENTIFICATION CODES

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is a seventeen-digit combination of letters and numbers. The VIN is stamped on a metal tab riveted on the instrument panel, top upper left of the dash. The VIN is also found on the vehicle certification (VC) label.

The first three vehicle identification number (VIN) positions are the world manufacturer identifier (WMI).

  1. 4F2 - Mazda Motors manufactured by Mazda Motor Corporation, USA, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)

Scheme 3: Brakes System, GVWR, Restraint Type Code

The fourth VIN position is the brake system, gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and restraint type code (all vehicles use driver and front passenger air bags).

  1. C - 4001-5000 pounds GVWR, hydraulic brakes, with driver and passenger air bags and side air bags
  2. Y - 4001-5000 pounds GVWR, hydraulic brakes, with driver and passenger air bags

The ninth VIN position is a government-assigned, computer-generated check digit code.
