AUDIO SYSTEM
This vehicle is equipped with one of three audio options
- Mazda AM/FM with single CD
- Mazda AM/FM, six CD player with cassette
- Radio prep package (vehicle delivered without radio)
All vehicles are supplied with four speakers or with a seven speaker option that includes a single subwoofer and two tweeters.

The radio ignition interference capacitor reduces interference transmitted through the radio speakers by the engine ignition and electrical system.

- Disconnect the battery cables. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-221834-S42533501902006022600000) .
- Remove the bezel end covers from both sides of the radio face. NOTE: All audio unit removal and installation procedures are similar. NOTE: Remove the bezel end covers before inserting the special tools.
- Remove the audio unit. Insert the special tool into the radio face plate and release the radio retaining clips. Pull outward on the special tool and remove the audio unit from the instrument panel.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Insert a screwdriver into the hole stamped mark.
- To remove, lift the upper module by pushing down the screwdriver's handle

- Insert a tape-wrapped screwdriver between the cover and the base unit, then unlatch hook A.
- To unlatch hook B, pull the cover upward.
SPEAKERS
All vehicles are equipped with four radio speakers mounted in the doors. The optional tweeters are mounted in the sail panels and the optional woofer is mounted in the right rear quarter panel.
ANTENNA
This vehicle is equipped with a fixed mast radio antenna mounted on the right front fender. The antenna cable has two parts. The antenna lead-in cable is included as part of the antenna base. The upper cable connects the radio to the lead-in cable. The two cables join in the RH foot well area, behind the lower A-pillar trim.

- Remove the antenna mast.
- Remove the right lower A-pillar trim.
- Disconnect the antenna cable connector and pull the pin-type retainer away from the body.
- Remove the fender splash shield. See «FENDER SPLASH SHIELD»(ref-221971-S14588408512006022600000) .
- Remove the rubber grommet and pull the cable into the fender area.
- Remove the antenna. Remove the nut. Remove the antenna out through the fender opening.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the right lower A-pillar trim.
- Disconnect the antenna cable connector.
- Lower the glove box door.
- Remove the three pin-type retainers holding the lead-in cable.
- Remove the antenna cable clip fastened to the center instrument panel support.
- Remove the cable through the glove box opening.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the ground strap. Remove the nut. Remove the bolt.
