Scheme 4
- Verify that the belt can be pulled out smoothly, and that it moves smoothly when wound.
- Verify that the retractor locks when the belt is quickly pulled.
- Remove the retractor. (See «SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-194464-S07044657702005092800000) .)
- Hold the retractor as it would be installed.
- Slowly incline the retractor while pulling out the belt.
- Verify that the retractor locks at approximately 30° inclination. If not as specified, replace the seat belt.
ALR
- Pull the belt out fully and the lock mode changes from ELR to ALR.
- Verify that retractor makes a clicking sound as the belt slowly retracts. If no sound is heard, the lock mode has not changed to ALR. If necessary, repeat the above Step 1.
- Verify that the belt locks when pulled.
- Verify that the lock mode changes to ELR when the belt fully retracts. If not as specified, replace the seat belt.
Scheme 5
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the buckle switch connector.
- Remove the bolt, then remove the buckle.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the buckle switch connector.
- Inspect for continuity between the seat belt switch terminals using an ohmmeter. If not as specified, replace the buckle.
Scheme 8
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the child restraint seat anchors.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
