Scheme 9
- Remove in the order indicated in the figure.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL NOTE
| CAUTION | Do not try to remove the steering wheel by hitting the shaft with a hammer. The column will collapse. |
- Set the vehicle in the straight-ahead position.
- Remove the steering wheel using a suitable puller.

Scheme 10: STEERING LOCK MOUNTING BOLTS AND BRACKET REMOVAL NOTE
- Make a groove in the heads of the steering lock mounting bolts using a chisel and a hammer.
- Remove the bolts using a screwdriver.
- Disassemble the steering lock component.
CYLINDER OUTER COMPONENT REMOVAL NOTE
| CAUTION | When replacing the cylinder outer component, the coil also must be replaced. |
- Set the key in the ACC position.
- Keep pushing the button and remove the cylinder outer component.

Scheme 12: STEERING LOCK MOUNTING BOLTS AND BRACKET INSTALLATION NOTE
- Assemble the steering lock component to the steering shaft.
- Verify that the lock operates correctly.
- Install new steering lock mounting bolts.
- Tighten the bolts until the heads break off.
STEERING SHAFT INSTALLATION NOTE
| CAUTION | Do not apply a shock in the axial direction of the shaft. |

- Tighten bolt A.
- Tighten bolt B from the left side temporarily.
- Tighten bolt C.
- Tighten bolt B.
- Tighten nut D.
STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION NOTE
- Set the wheels in the straight-ahead position, and install the steering wheel.

- Inspect the following: Column bearing for damage. Steering shaft length. Replace the steering shaft component as necessary. Length 847.9-851.9 mm {33.39-33.53}
- Inspect the tilt operation. Verify that the adjusting lever moves smoothly from unlock position to lock position. Verify that the steering shaft is fixed firmly when the adjusting lever is locked. Replace the steering shaft component as necessary.
STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | Performing the following procedures without first removing the ABS wheel-speed sensor may possibly cause an open circuit in the harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before performing the following procedures, remove the ABS wheel-speed sensor (axle side) and fix it to an appropriate place where the sensor will not be pulled by mistake while servicing the vehicle. |

- Remove in the order indicated in the figure.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- After installation, inspect the toe-in. (See SPECIFICATIONS .)

Scheme 17: BOLT (INTERMEDIATE SHAFT) REMOVAL NOTE
- Mark the pinion shaft and gear housing for proper installation.

Scheme 18: TIE-ROD END BALL JOINT REMOVAL NOTE
- Remove the tie rod nut.
- Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle using the SSTs .
STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL NOTE
- Loosen the crossmember nuts and lower the crossmember. CAUTION: Excessively loosening the crossmember nuts may possibly cause the crossmember to fall off. The crossmember nuts must threaded on the studs when loosening.
- Remove the steering gear and linkage by pulling it from the left side.

Scheme 19: STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE INSTALLATION NOTE
- Loosely tighten nuts 3, 4 and bolt 2.
- Tighten the mounting bracket nuts and bolts to the specified torque in the order shown.
- Tighten the crossmember nuts.

BOLT (INTERMEDIATE SHAFT) INSTALLATION NOTE
- Align the marks and install the intermediate shaft and bolt.
