ON-BOARD SYSTEM READINESS (OSR) TEST MODE
OSR test mode indicates OBD II system operating status by indicating status of each system monitor (complete or incomplete). There are 2 types of system monitors. The first type of system monitor monitors misfires, fuel system and comprehensive components. These are continuous monitoring-type functions and will be identified by a CONT message on the scan tool. The second type of system monitor monitors, catalyst, EGR system, EVAP system and oxygen sensor. These are monitored during each drive cycle only. When the drive cycle sensor monitor is complete, a YES message will display.
Apply parking brake. Place shift lever in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T). Block wheels. Turn off all electrical accessories. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature.
Perform visual inspection. Ensure air cleaner and inlet ducts are clean, and system wiring harness is properly connected. Check for bent or broken connector terminals and corroded or loose wires. Check Powertrain Control Module (PCM), sensors and actuators for physical damage. Check engine coolant for proper level and mixture. Check for proper transmission fluid level and quality.

- If two or more DTCs for sensors connected to sensor ground circuit (PCM connector terminal No. 3AB) are present, go to next step. Sensors include the following: IAT sensor. ECT sensor. FTP sensor. EGR valve position sensor. EGR boost sensor. TP sensor. HO2S. Transaxle fluid temperature sensor. If any other DTCs are not present, repair open reference voltage circuit between PCM and sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool. Disconnect suspect sensor. Ensure appropriate PCM connector is disconnected. Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between suspect sensor harness connector and PCM harness connector terminal No. 3AB. (Scheme 43) If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reconnect sensor and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool. Ensure PCM is disconnected. Check resistance between negative battery terminal and PCM harness connector terminals No. 4AB (Black wire), No. 4AF (Black wire), No. 4AJ (Black wire) and 4AN (Black wire), individually. (Scheme 43) If all circuits have resistance of less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any circuit has resistance of 5 ohms or more, repair open wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Check resistance of Black/Yellow wire between each sensor harness connector listed in step 10 and PCM harness connector terminal No. 3AB. (Scheme 43) If resistance is less than 5 ohms, ground circuits are okay. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, recheck reference voltage. If reference voltage is still not 4-6 volts, replace PCM. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect appropriate PCM connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Ensure TP sensor, EGR valve position sensor, EGR boost sensor and FTP sensor connectors are disconnected. Ensure suspect sensor is disconnected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between TP sensor terminal "B" (Light Green/Red wire) and negative battery terminal. If voltage is 5 volts or more, repair short to power. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If voltage is less than 5 volts, recheck reference voltage. If reference voltage is still not 4-6 volts, replace PCM. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
