Inspection procedure

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1INSPECT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT OF DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the discharge headlight control module connector. Turn the headlight switch to the HEADLIGHT (LO) position. Measure the voltage at discharge headlight control module terminal A (wiring harness-side). Is the voltage approx. 12 V?YesGo to Step 6.
NoGo to the next step.
2INSPECT FUSE Turn the headlight switch to the OFF position. Remove the HEAD LR 15 A fuse (RH) or HEAD LL 15A fuse(LH). Inspect the fuses. Are the fuses normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the fuse.
3INSPECT HEADLIGHT LOW RELAY Inspect the headlight low relay. (See RELAY INSPECTION ). Is the headlight low relay normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the headlight low relay. (See RELAY INSPECTION ).
4INSPECT LIGHT SWITCH Inspect the light switch. (See LIGHT SWITCH INSPECTION ). Is the light switch normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the light switch. (See LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
5INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BATTERY AND DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the negative battery cable. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals: Battery (positive terminal) and headlight low relay terminal D. HEAD LR 15 A fuse (RH) and discharge headlight control module terminal A HEAD LL 15 A fuse (LH) discharge headlight control module terminal A Are the wiring harnesses normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
6INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE AND GROUND Inspect the wiring harness between discharge headlight control module terminal B and ground for the following: Short to power supply Open circuit Is the wiring harness normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
7VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT BULB OR DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Install the discharge headlight low bulb (previously verified as illuminating normally). (See HEADLIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). Connect the discharge headlight control module connector. Turn the headlight switch to the HEADLIGHT (LO) position. Does the headlight (low-beam) illuminate?YesSystem inspection completed.
NoReplace the discharge headlight control module. (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

Scheme 4: AUTO LIGHT ILLUMINATION LEVEL SETTING
  1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
  2. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initialization screen of the M-MDS. When using the IDS (laptop PC) Select "Module Programming". When using the PDS (Pocket PC) Select "Programming". Select "Module Programming".
  3. Then, select items from the screen menu in the following order. Select "Programmable Module Installation". Select "Exterior Lighting".
  4. Select the item name, and then select option. Autolamp On Setting (Standard (other) / Low (other)) NOTE: When the M-MDS is set to Low, the auto-light sensor sensitivity decreases, and the TNS and headlight illumination timing is slower.

Scheme 5: FRONT TURN/PARKING/SIDE MARKER LIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-292887-S30644836642008080600000) ).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the fasteners and slightly bend back the mudguard.
  4. Remove the socket, then remove the front turn/parking/side marker light bulb.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 6: FRONT FOG LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-292887-S30644836642008080600000) ).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Slightly bend back the mudguard.
  4. Disconnect the front fog light bulb connector.
  5. Remove the screws and bolt, then remove the front fog light.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  7. Adjust the front fog light aiming. (See «FRONT FOG LIGHT AIMING»(ref-292924-S04479858702008080600000) ).

  1. Make a headlight adjustment screen as shown in the figure using double-weight, white paper.
  2. Adjust the tire pressure to the specification.
  3. Position the unloaded vehicle on a flat, level surface.
  4. Seat one person in the driver's seat.
  5. Line up the headlights with the white screen at a distance of 3 m {9.8 ft} apart.
  6. Place an object in front of the fog light not being adjusted to block its light beam.
  7. Start the engine so that the battery remains charged.
  8. Turn the front fog lights on.
  9. Remove the adjusting bolt and cut the front fog light hole cover at the position shown in the figure.
  10. Loosen the screw, move the front fog light in the direction of the arrows, and adjust the center of the front fog light to the position shown in the figure.
  11. Install the adjusting bolt and tighten the screw.

Scheme 10: FRONT FOG LIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-292887-S30644836642008080600000) ).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Slightly bend back the mudguard.
  4. Disconnect the front fog light connector.
  5. Remove the front fog light bulb by turning it in the direction shown by the arrow. CAUTION: A halogen bulb generates extremely high heat when it is illuminated. If the surface of the bulb is soiled, excessive heat will build up and the life of the bulb will be shortened. When handling the bulb, hold the flange, not the glass.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 11: FRONT SIDE TURN LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-292887-S30644836642008080600000) ).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Move the front side turn light in the direction of the arrow (1) and detach the tab.
  4. Pull area A of the front side turn light in the direction of the arrow (2) and remove the front side turn light.
  5. Disconnect the front side turn light connector.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal. CAUTION: Always assemble the front side turn light with the tab towards the vehicle front.

  3. Remove the cover in the interior of the liftgate.
  4. Remove the nut.
  5. Disconnect the connector.
  6. Remove the high-mount brake light.
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the liftgate trim. (See «LIFTGATE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-292888-S35115870652008080600000) ).
  4. While cutting the double-sided adhesive tape using a flathead screwdriver or razor, separate the cover from the body. WARNING: Using a razor with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using a razor.
  5. Press the lens tabs in the direction indicated by the arrows and remove the lens.
  6. Remove the socket.
  7. Remove the license plate light bulb.
  8. Install in the reverse order of removal. Attach the double-sided adhesive tape to the cover as shown in the figure.

  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the under cover.
  4. Drain the oil.(See «TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [G35M-R]»(ref-292919-S24268040702008080600000) ).
  5. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector and remove the back-up light switch.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  7. Refill the oil.(See «TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [G35M-R]»(ref-292919-S24268040702008080600000) ).

  5. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.

  1. Pull the combination switch locks in the direction indicated in the figure and disengage the tab.
  2. Pull the combination switch outward, then remove it.

  1. Remove the meter hood (See «METER HOOD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-292888-S19738017082008080600000) ).
  2. Remove the column cover (See «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-292888-S25932918152008080600000) ).
  3. Remove the steering angle sensor connector.
  4. Connect battery positive voltage to terminal A and ground to terminal D of the steering angle sensor.
  5. Turn the steering wheel to the right and left, and verify that the voltage and pulses at the terminals are as shown in the figure. If not as specified, replace the steering angle sensor.

  8. Remove the hazard warning switch.
  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Verify that the continuity between the hazard switch terminals is as indicated in the table. If not as indicated in the table, replace the hazard warning switch.
  2. Connect the positive battery to the hazard warning switch terminal A, the negative battery to the hazard warning switch terminal H.
  3. Verify that LED illuminated. If there is any malfunction replace the hazard warning switch.

  4. Detach the tab and remove the bulb housing. NOTE: The valve housing and the wiring harness have been integrated and attached to the headliner. The wiring harness passes under the urethane and shock absorption pad, so if the valve housing is to be replaced, cut the urethane and then cut and remove the shock absorption pad.
  5. Pull in the direction of the arrows and detach the tabs.
  6. Remove the interior light.
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: Install a new shock absorption pad by applying adhesive to the areas where the previous shock absorption pad was removed after installing the wiring harness. Also, after installing the wiring harness and shock absorption pad, reinforce the areas where the urethane was cut with vinyl tape.
