Engine - Intake-Air System (L3): Removal & Installation Mazda 5 I

INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]

WARNINGA hot engine and intake air system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the intake air system. Fuel line spills and leakage from the pressurized fuel system are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injury or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure", while referring to the "BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [L3] ).

  1. Remove the plug hole plate. (See «PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-244325-S01662276622006092100000) ).
  2. Remove the battery cover and battery duct. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-244326-S41790335602006092100000) ).
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the under cover.
  5. Drain the engine coolant. (See «ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [L3]»(ref-244337-S29195014592006092100000) ).
  6. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Complete the "AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [L3]»(ref-244329-S24490073762006092100000) ).

Fresh-Air Duct Removal Note

  1. Remove the front bumper before removing the fresh-air duct. (See «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-244342-S11707177962006092100000) ).

Intake Manifold Removal Note

  1. Disconnect the vacuum hose connecting the intake manifold. (See «PURGE SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-244343-S02276159152006092100000) ).
  2. Remove the dipstick pipe. (See «OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-244341-S27668994872006092100000) ).

Air Cleaner Case Installation Note

Note. Before installing the air cleaner case, verify that the rubber mounts on the battery support bracket have not fallen off. When inserting the air cleaner case into the rubber mounts, applying soapy water aids the operation.

  1. Verify that two rubber mounts are installed on the battery support bracket.
  2. Install the air cleaner case into the rubber mounts.

  1. Using the strap, secure the shroud panel and the air cleaner case as shown in the figure.

  1. Align the alignment marks on the throttle body and the air hose.
