Discharge Headlight Service Warnings
- To prevent electrical shock when replacing the discharge headlight bulb, always perform the servicing with dry hands and in an area where it does not get wet.
Scheme 67
- Never probe the discharge headlight bulb connector directly with a finger or tester. Otherwise, it could result in electrical shock. When the light switch is ON, high voltage of approx. 25,000 V flows the discharge headlight bulb connector. (Scheme 67): Precaution For Discharge Headlight Service
- When the headlights are on, high voltage flows around the discharge headlight bulb and discharge headlight bulb connector. When servicing the discharge headlights while they are illuminated, always perform the servicing with the headlights in their installed condition.
Scheme 68
Scheme 68: Discharge Headlight Control Module Service Warnings
- Do not use a tester to inspect or disassemble a discharge headlight control module. Otherwise, it could result in electrical shock. (Scheme 68): Precaution For Discharge Headlight Control Module Service
Discharge Headlight Control Module Reuse
- If the discharge headlight control module is damaged, replace the module with a new one. Otherwise, it could result in electrical shock or operation malfunction.
- The discharge headlight control module may temporarily operate normally even though it may have been hit, however, the inside of the module could be damaged. If the control module is reused, inspect the following items related to the discharge headlight bulb illumination, and verify that there is no malfunction. Perform the tests for the discharge headlight bulb several times under cold lighting condition (switch on after switching discharge headlight bulb off for approx. 10 min or more) and under warm-up lighting condition (switch off for approx. 1 min after switching discharge headlight bulb on for approx. 15 min or more, and switch on), and verify that the discharge headlight bulb illuminates. Inspect the discharge headlight bulb illumination until it illuminates evenly after cold lighting, verify that the discharge headlight bulb illumination has no flicker or uneven brightness level. Illuminate the headlight for approx. 30 min using a proper discharge headlight bulb, and verify that the illumination condition is stabilized on the left and right with no difference in brightness level.
Discharge Type
| WARNING | Incorrect servicing of the discharge headlight bulb could result in electrical shock. Before servicing the discharge headlight bulb, always refer to the service warnings. (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT SERVICE WARNINGS .) |

- Connect the tester as shown in the figure.
- When slowly moving the link up and down, verify that the shift is linear while the voltage is 0.5 to 4.5 V. (Scheme 143): Auto Leveling Sensor Voltage Graph If the voltage cannot be verified as indicated in the graph, replace the auto leveling sensor.
HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM INITIALIZATION
| CAUTION | If the headlight auto leveling initial setting is not stored correctly, the headlight auto leveling system may not operate normally. To store the initial setting correctly, perform the initial setting with the vehicle under the following conditions: No occupants inside vehicle Cargo other than spare tire, jack, and tools not loaded Tire pressure is at specification (See WHEEL AND TIRE SPECIFICATION .) |
Note. The headlight auto leveling system initial setting has a procedure which uses the M-MDS and one which does not. Because the procedure differs depending on the part which is replaced in the method not using the M-MDS, refer to the following and perform the initial setting. If the following servicing is to be done, perform the procedure for the case where system initialization has never been done. (See INITIALIZATION HAS NEVER BEEN PERFORMED .) AFS (adaptive front lighting system) control module is newly replaced.
- If the following servicing is done, perform the procedure for the case where the system is reset after initialization has already been completed. (See «INITIALIZATION OPERATION IMPLEMENTED AND RESETTING TO BE PERFORMED»(ref-579340-S40907493802013100700000) .) Auto leveling sensor is removed/installed. Auto leveling sensor is replaced. Procedure for changing vehicle height is performed such as changing suspension.
Scheme 144
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. (Scheme 144): Identifying DLC-2
- After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initial screen of the M-MDS. When using the IDS (laptop PC) Select "Electrical". Select "Exterior Lighting". Select "Headlamp". Select "Auto Leveling Sensor Re-zero Procedure"
- Adjust the headlight aiming. (See «HEADLIGHT AIMING»(ref-579340-S29759205522013100700000).)

- Switch the ignition ON. NOTE: If the headlight auto leveling system initial setting is not completed, the AFS OFF indicator light flashes at 0.5 s intervals when the ignition is switched ON. This does not indicate a system malfunction, therefore, perform the initial setting.
- Ground the DLC-2 B terminal 3 times or more at 1 s intervals using the jumper wire. (Scheme 145): Identifying Ground DLC-2 Connector Terminal B
- If the headlight auto leveling system initial setting is completed normally, the AFS OFF indicator light flashes three times at 0.5 s intervals and it turns off. (Scheme 146): Identifying AFS OFF Indicator Light NOTE: If the AFS OFF indicator light continues to flash at 0.5 s intervals, the following malfunction can be considered. Repair or replace the malfunctioning area, then repeat the procedure from Step 1. (See «TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX [AFS (ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM)]»(ref-579459-S00669418442013100700000).) With the normal completion of the headlight auto leveling system initial setting, the headlight leveling actuator operation can also be verified. If the headlight auto leveling system initial setting is completed normally, the headlight leveling actuator lowers from its current position for approx. 2 s and returns to its original position.
- Disconnect the jumper wire from DLC-2.
- Verify that the AFS OFF indicator light is not illuminated.
- Adjust the headlight aiming. (See «HEADLIGHT AIMING»(ref-579340-S29759205522013100700000).)
