Inspection procedure

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1INSPECT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT OF DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) Disconnect the discharge headlight control module connector. Connect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) Turn the light switch to the HEAD position. Measure the voltage at discharge headlight control module connector (harness-side) terminal A. Is the voltage approx. 12 V ?YesGo to Step 6.
NoGo to the next step.
2INSPECT FUSE Turn the light switch to the OFF position. Remove the H/L LO RH 15 A fuse or H/L LO LH 15 A fuse. Inspect the fuses. Are the fuses normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the fuse.
3INSPECT HEADLIGHT RELAY Remove the headlight relay (LO). (See RELAY LOCATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) (See RELAY LOCATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5, MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .) Inspect the headlight relay (LO). (See RELAY INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) (See RELAY INSPECTION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5, MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .) Is the headlight relay (LO) normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the headlight relay (LO). (See RELAY LOCATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) (See RELAY LOCATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5, MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .)
4INSPECT LIGHT SWITCH Inspect the light switch. (See BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH INSPECTION .) Is the light switch normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the light switch. (See LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5INSPECT FOR OPEN OR SHORT CIRCUITS IN THE FOLLOWING WIRING HARNESSES BETWEEN BATTERY AND DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .) Inspect for continuity between the following terminals: Positive battery-headlight relay (LO) terminal D H/L LO RH 15 A fuse-discharge headlight control module terminal A H/L LO LH 15 A fuse-discharge headlight control module terminal A Are the wiring harnesses normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
6INSPECT FOR OPEN OR SHORT CIRCUITS IN THE FOLLOWING WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE AND GROUND Inspect the wiring harness between the discharge headlight control module terminal B and ground for the following: Short to power supply Open circuit Is the wiring harness normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
7VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT BULB OR DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Install any other discharge headlight bulb. (See HEADLIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) Connect the discharge headlight control module connector. Turn the light switch to the HEAD position. Does the headlight (low-beam) illuminate?YesReplace the discharge headlight bulb. (See HEADLIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
NoReplace the discharge headlight control module. (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

Note. Perform the auto leveling system initialization after newly replacing the AFS control module to assure that the auto leveling system operates correctly.

  2. Remove the following parts: Passenger-side front scuff plate (See «FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520454-S34787470772013010300000).) Passenger-side front side trim (See «FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520454-S10636860092013010300000).) Dashboard under cover (See «DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520454-S21271611252013010300000).) Glove compartment (See «GLOVE COMPARTMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520454-S00904275812013010300000).) Passenger-side lower panel (See «LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520454-S41081192382013010300000).)
  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table. (Scheme 4): AFS Control Module, Connector And Nut With Torque Specification
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  5. Perform the headlight auto leveling system initialization after newly replacing the AFS control module. (See «HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM INITIALIZATION»(ref-520371-S32079486582013010300000).)

  2. Remove the switch panel in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure. (Scheme 5): Removing Switch Panel And Connectors
  3. Disconnect the connector.
  4. Remove the AFS OFF switch in the direction of the arrow (2) shown in the figure while pressing the tabs in the direction of the arrow (1). (Scheme 6): Removing AFS OFF Switch
  5. Remove the AFS OFF switch.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5]»(ref-520388-S24063200782013010300000).)   2. Remove the AFS OFF switch. (See «AFS (ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM) OFF SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520371-S23192633622013010300000).)
  3. Verify that the continuity between the AFS OFF switch terminals is as indicated in the table. (Scheme 7): Identifying AFS OFF Switch Terminals If the continuity is not as indicated in the table, replace the AFS OFF switch. (Scheme 8): AFS OFF Switch Terminal Continuity Chart
  4. Apply battery positive voltage to AFS OFF switch terminal E, and connect terminal A to ground.
  5. Verify that the LED illuminates. If there is any malfunction, replace the AFS OFF switch.

HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR INSPECTION

Note. Headlight leveling actuator are integrated with the front combination light. For the actuator inspection of the headlight auto leveling system, perform the headlight leveling actuator operation inspection. (See HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR OPERATION INSPECTION .)

  1. Measure the voltage at each terminal is as indicated in the Terminal Voltage Lists. If the voltage is not as specified in the Terminal Voltage Lists, inspect the parts under "Inspection item (s)". If the system does not work properly even though the parts or related wiring harnesses do not have any malfunction, replace the front combination light.   2. Rotate the parking light socket in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure to remove it. (Scheme 10): Rotating Parking Light Socket
  3. Remove the parking light bulb.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  3. Rotate the parking/front side marker/front turn light socket in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure. (Scheme 11): Rotating Parking/Front Side Marker/Front Turn Light Socket

  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Remove the front bumper. (See «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520458-S33419321672013010300000).)
  3. Pull the wiring harness from the hook in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove it. (Scheme 15): Front Foglight Wiring Harness And Hook
  4. Disconnect the connector.
  5. Pull the wiring harness in the direction of the arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove it while detaching clip in the direction of the arrow (1). (Scheme 16): Pulling Wiring Harness And Clip (LH And RH)
  6. Remove the screw A. (Scheme 17): Front Fog Light Component And Screw A
  7. Pull the front fog light component in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove it while remove the pins.
  8. Remove the bolt. (Scheme 18): Front Fog Light Component Bolt And Screw B With Torque Specification
  9. Remove the screw B.
  10. Pull the front fog light in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the pin from the front fog light cover. (Scheme 19): Front Fog Light Cover And Pin
  11. Remove the front fog light.
  12. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  13. Adjust the front fog light aiming. (See «FRONT FOG LIGHT AIMING»(ref-520371-S05986362422013010300000).)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.3 DISI TURBO]»(ref-520412-S07601908282013010300000).)
  2. Remove the fasteners and slightly bend back the mudguard.
  3. While pressing the tab in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure, pull the connector in the direction of arrow (2) and disconnect it. (Scheme 20): Front Fog Light Connector And Tab
  4. Remove the screws shown in the figure and remove the front fog light cover from the front bumper. (Scheme 21): Front Fog Light Cover And Screws
  5. Remove the screw and bolt shown in the figure. (Scheme 22): Front Fog Light, Screw And Bolt With Torque Specification
  6. Pull the front fog light in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove it from the front fog light cover. (Scheme 23): Front Fog Light, Cover And Pin
  7. Remove the front fog light.
  8. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  9. Adjust the front fog light aiming. (See «FRONT FOG LIGHT AIMING»(ref-520371-S05986362422013010300000).)

  2. Slightly bend back the mudguard. (See «FRONT MUDGUARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520448-S04135051462013010300000).)
  3. Disconnect the connector. (Scheme 24): Identifying Front Fog Light Bulb Connector
  4. Rotate the front fog light bulb in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure. (Scheme 25): Rotating Front Fog Light Bulb
  5. Remove the front fog light bulb. (Scheme 26): Identifying Front Fog Light Bulb CAUTION: A halogen bulb generates extremely high heat when it is used. If the surface of the bulb is soiled, excessive heat will build up and the light's life will be shortened. When replacing the bulb, hold the metal flange, not the glass.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  4. Rotate the front fog light bulb in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure. (Scheme 28): Rotating Front Fog Light Bulb
  5. Remove the front fog light bulb. (Scheme 29): Identifying Front Fog Light Bulb CAUTION: A halogen bulb generates extremely high heat when it is used.
