Module Controlled Functions

There are 3 multifunction electronic control modules on this vehicle. The smart junction box (SJB), drivers door module and driver seat module.

The SJB is a combination of a multifunction control module and an interior power junction box. SJB functions control multiple systems, which include

  1. Illuminated entry and interior lamps
  2. Exterior lamps
  3. Horn
  4. Remote keyless entry (RKE) system
  5. Power door locks
  6. Smart locks
  7. Windshield wiper

The driver door module (DDM), if equipped, is located under the LH front door panel. It works in conjunction with the driver seat module (DSM) located under the driver seat, to control the memory functions of the exterior driver memory mirror and the memory seat positions.

The DSM controls the exterior passenger memory mirror and the power adjustable seat motors functions.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART

Driver Door Module (DDM)

Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.

SPECIAL TOOL(S) 73III Automotive Meter 105-R0057 or equivalent Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) with appropriate adapters, or equivalent diagnostic tool Flex Probe Kit 105-R025B or equivalent

Principles of Operation

The driver door module (DDM) is on the controller area network (CAN) communication network. To support several vehicle subsystems, the module permits intermodule and diagnostic tool communications.

The DDM controls the driver memory power exterior mirror. This feature allows the driver to program personalized mirror positions. Once the driver stores a mirror position, the driver can recall the setting by pressing the corresponding memory switch or by using a programmed remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter. For additional information, refer to REAR VIEW MIRRORS .

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Smart junction box (SJB) fuse 20 (7.5A) Circuitry DDM
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Check that the program card is correctly installed. Check the connections to the vehicle. Check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  6. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: CAN circuits fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/lincoln/zephyr/us-2006-2006/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) . No response/not equipped for the DDM, GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(/lincoln/zephyr/us-2006-2006/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-control-modules__pinpoint-test-a-no-communication-with) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the DDM.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(/lincoln/zephyr/us-2006-2006/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-control-modules__diagnostic-trouble-code-dtc-chart) .
  8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, refer to the appropriate article to continue diagnosis.

  1. Disconnect the 6 electrical connectors.
  2. Remove the 2 nuts and position the SJB aside.
  3. Disconnect the TPMS antenna electrical connector and remove the SJB.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Download the SJB configuration from the diagnostic tool into the new SJB. For additional information, refer to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(/lincoln/zephyr/us-2006-2006/remont/communication-devices/#module-configuration) .
  5. Program the RKE function of the SJB. If a new instrument cluster was not installed, cycle each key to the ON position for a minimum of 6 seconds to program the RKE function of the integrated keys. If a new instrument cluster was installed, program the integrated keys (2 required). For additional information, refer to «ANTI-THEFT - PATS»(/lincoln/zephyr/us-2006-2006/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#anti-theft-pats) .
