TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The engine management system electronically operates the throttle of the engine in response to throttle pedal movements initiated by the driver. In the event of a system failure, the engine management system provides a "limp home" mode which allows the car to be driven with limited performance.

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(/lincoln/town-car/iii-2003-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery-mounting-and-cables) article.
  2. Disconnect the accelerator pedal sensor electrical connector.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator pedal motor electrical connector.
  4. Disconnect the accelerator pedal motor drive cable connector.
  5. Remove the 3 accelerator pedal and bracket retaining nuts.
  6. Remove the accelerator pedal and bracket assembly.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the accelerator pedal and bracket assembly.
  2. Install the 3 accelerator pedal and bracket retaining nuts. Tighten nuts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  3. Connect the accelerator pedal motor drive cable connector.
  4. Connect the accelerator pedal motor electrical connector.
  5. Connect the accelerator pedal sensor electrical connector.
  6. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(/lincoln/town-car/iii-2003-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery-mounting-and-cables) article.
  7. Index the adjustable accelerator pedal and bracket assembly. For additional information, refer to «HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION»(/lincoln/town-car/iii-2003-2011/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#hydraulic-brake-system-actuation) article.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(/lincoln/town-car/iii-2003-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery-mounting-and-cables) article.
  2. Disconnect the accelerator pedal electrical connector.
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator pedal assembly. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
