  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC). NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM : Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM . Refer to «PINPOINT TEST AF: NO POWER TO THE SCAN TOOL»(ref-355946-S03084164432010013000000) to diagnose no power to the scan tool. NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM .
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «PINPOINT TEST A: THE PCM DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE SCAN TOOL»(ref-355946-S02817008552010013000000) to diagnose no response from the PCM.
  7. Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication with the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R), GO to «SYMPTOM TABLE»(ref-356018-S29284672152010013000000) . If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION»(ref-355946-S34749853742010013000000) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SOD-R and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L).
  9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC TABLES»(ref-356018-S15260782662010013000000) . For all other DTCs, refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) TABLE»(ref-355947-S19553737032010013000000) .

  1. I1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER'S CONCERN Carry out the diagnostic system check. Start the engine. Observe the left and right exterior mirror BLIS™ / CTA LEDs and compare the illumination in each mirror. Is one LED noticeably dimmer than the other? Yes: GO to I2 . No: The concern may be due to customer perception or ambient lighting conditions. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. I2 VERIFY THE EXTERIOR MIRROR BLIS™/CTA LED OPERATION Ignition OFF. Apply the park brake. Ignition ON. Select REVERSE. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SOD-R and/or SOD-L DataLogger. NOTE: The SOD-R and SOD-L are separate modules and the active command PID needs to be commanded on in each individual module. Select the SOD-R or SOD-L PID (CTALERT) and active command the LED ON. Observe the left and/or right exterior mirror BLIS™ / CTA LED and message center. Does the LED blink brightly, audible tone and a message in the message center display "CTA ALERT"? Yes: The concern may be due to customer perception, ambient lighting conditions or system functionality. TEST the system for normal operation. No: GO to I3 .
  3. I3 CHECK THE SOD-R OR SOD-L VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: SOD-L C4230 or SOD-R C4229. Ignition ON.
