Parking Aid System: Overview Lincoln MKX I рестайлинг

Collision/avoidance ~1985 words

Principles of Operation

The parking aid sensors detect objects approximately 152 cm (60 in) from the rear of the vehicle, 50 cm (20 in) from the rear side of the vehicle, and 30 cm (12 in) above the ground. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) calculates the distance to an object within the 170 degree semicircular azimuth area around the rear of the vehicle.

A variable-rate warning tone is generated from a speaker attached to the PAM. The speaker increases its warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. When an object is detected within 30 cm (12 in) of the sensors, the warning tone becomes continuous. When the PAM sounds the parking aid tone, it sends a volume cutback enabled message over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The IPC sends a message over the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) to the Audio Control Module (ACM). When the ACM receives the message, it reduces the speaker output so the parking aid tone can be heard.

The parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the transmission in reverse. The parking aid system is disabled if a fault is detected in 1 of the 4 sensors, the parking aid speaker, or the PAM. This is indicated by a parking aid disabled warning message in the message center.

The parking aid system is enabled and disabled through the message center, located in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

If a MyKey® restricted key is in the ignition cylinder, the parking aid menu is not available in the message center and cannot be deactivated.

The PAM communicates on the HS-CAN and can be diagnosed with a scan tool. The PAM communicates with the scan tool, the Body Control Module (BCM), and the IPC.

Normal Operation

The parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the reverse gear is selected. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) receives reverse gear input from the PCM through the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). A reference voltage and signal return is supplied to the parking aid sensors from the PAM. The PAM receives an input signal from each individual parking aid sensor. The system can be disabled through the message center in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

Note. If a MyKey® restricted key is in the ignition cylinder, the parking aid menu is not available in the message center and cannot be deactivated.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

  1. Dirty or obstructed parking aid sensor
  2. Parking aid sensor
  3. PAM

The Parking Aid Module (PAM) supplies a reference voltage and signal return to the parking aid sensors. A fault condition occurs when the PAM detects a short to ground or signal return circuit on the parking aid sensor voltage supply circuit.

  1. DTC B1B58:11 (Rear Sensors Power Circuit: Circuit Short to Ground) - sets when the sensor voltage supply circuit is shorted to ground or to the signal return circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

  1. Wiring, terminals or connectors

Note. Close the liftgate for correct operation of the video camera system.

The rear video camera system is active with the ignition in run and the transaxle selector in the REVERSE (R) position. The video camera receives commands and sends status over a dedicated Local Interconnect Network (LIN) to the Body Control Module (BCM). The video camera sends a video signal to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) on a pair of shielded video circuits. The APIM sends the video signal to the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) (mounted to the APIM) which displays the video image of the area behind the vehicle.

The video camera system has 4 video features that are controlled in the FDIM. The features are

  1. Fixed guidelines
  2. Visual park aid alert
  3. Manual zoom
  4. Video camera delay

For each one of these system features except the camera delay feature, the APIM sends a network message requesting the system feature to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) via the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The IPC sends the message to the BCM over the HS-CAN. The BCM sends the message to the video camera over the LIN. The LIN is a dedicated single wire communication line that sends and receives network messages from the BCM to the video camera. The video camera delay feature is controlled with in the APIM.

The messages sent from the BCM to the video camera are

  1. transmission selector (PRNDL) status
  2. liftgate ajar status
  3. camera configuration data
  4. display manual zoom request
  5. parking aid audible warning status
  6. parking aid sensor distance to object data

The messages sent from the video camera to the BCM are

  1. camera status
  2. display zoom status
  3. camera part number data
  4. visual park aid alert status
  5. fixed guideline status

All of the video camera features are enabled and disabled within the FDIM menu screen.

The video camera delay feature keeps the image displayed on the FDIM until the vehicle reaches 8 km/h (5 mph) when the vehicle is shifted out of reverse or if any button on the FDIM is pressed.

The video camera fixed guidelines feature displays guidelines on top of the video image to assist the driver with alignment of the vehicle. A dashed line on the displayed image represents the center of the vehicle and 3 color-coded lines (red, yellow, green) identify different zones between the rear of the vehicle and objects.

Note. The color-coded lines cannot indicate accurate or consistent distances between objects located behind the vehicle and at the rear of the vehicle. This normal condition is due to variances in vehicle ride height, including, but not limited to, vehicle loading.

The visual park aid alert feature utilizes the 4 parking aid sensor inputs from the Parking Aid Module (PAM) and the video camera image. When the transaxle selector is in the reverse position and an object is detected in the path of the parking aid sensor, a network message of the distance from the parking aid sensor to the object is sent from the PAM to the BCM over the HS-CAN. The BCM networks the parking aid sensor message to the video camera over the LIN. The visual alerts are red, yellow or green and appear as highlights on top of the displayed image to indicate in which zone the object is detected. The highlighted visual alerts are still operational if the parking aid system is disabled within the IPC and the visual alert feature is enabled.

The manual zoom feature is controlled by the video camera. The manual zoom feature has 3 zoom levels that are only active when the vehicle is in reverse. If the manual zoom feature is enabled and the vehicle is shifted out of reverse the manual zoom feature is disabled. The manual zoom feature must be reenabled the next time the vehicle is shifted into reverse. When the FDIM requests the video image to be zoomed in or out, the APIM sends a zoom request network message to the IPC. The IPC sends the message to the BCM, which sends the zoom request message to the video camera over the LIN. The video image sent by the video camera is then digitally zoomed in or out.

When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the video camera receives voltage. With the gear selector in reverse, the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) receives the reverse signal from the Body Control Module (BCM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN), enabling the system. The video camera also receives the reverse signal message from BCM over the Local Interconnect Network (LIN). The LIN is a dedicated single wire communication line that sends and receives network messages from the BCM to the video camera. A pair of shielded wires carries the video signal from the video camera to the APIM. The APIM sends the video signal to the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) and displays a video image of the area behind the vehicle.

  1. DTC B115E:08 (Camera Module: Bus Signal/Message Failure) - an on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when there is a LIN communication fault from the video camera.
  2. DTC C1001:01 (Vision System Camera: General Electrical Failure) - a continuous DTC that sets in the APIM when no video signal is detected from the video camera when the vehicle is in reverse.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

  1. Wiring, terminals or connectors
  2. Video camera
  3. APIM
  4. BCM
