REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Remove the key.
- Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-292554) article.
- Remove the steering wheel nut. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the steering wheel switches electrical connector.
- Using a suitable puller, remove the steering wheel.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Align the steering wheel using the reference mark.

- Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Remove the key.
- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-292554) article.
- Remove the upper steering column shroud.
- Release the tilt lever, remove the 3 lower steering column shroud screws and the shroud.
- Remove the 2 steering column opening cover screws. Detach the steering column opening cover.
- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector and hose from the in-vehicle temperature sensor. Remove the steering column opening cover.
- Disconnect the multi-function switch, ignition switch and clockspring electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the steering angle sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the passive anti-theft system (PATS) electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer and position the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the lower steering column shaft joint cover nuts and the cover.
- Index-mark the steering column shaft position to the steering gear for reference during installation.
- Remove the steering column shaft bolt and disconnect the shaft from the steering gear. To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- Remove the 4 steering column support bracket nuts and the steering column. To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-292554) article.
