Principles of Operation
The compass is self-calibrating. This eliminates the need to manually set the compass. If the compass is displaying a heading and not displaying C or CAL, the compass is in auto-calibration mode. In this mode, the compass automatically calibrates for changes in vehicle magnetics over the life of the vehicle. This auto-calibration mode assures the compass heading is always accurate.
A display of C or CAL indicates the compass requires calibration. The compass may temporarily display C or CAL if the vehicle characteristics have changed (carwash, collision, etc.). Compass adjustment is controlled by the COMP switch which provides access to the calibration and zone adjustment procedures.
Excessive magnetism in or near the vehicle may cause the compass to display ALL SEGMENTS. In order to distinguish between vehicle magnetics and surrounding magnetics, drive the vehicle to an area that is free from large metal objects. Cycling the ignition switch ON and OFF will reset the compass. A display of ALL SEGMENTS within 20 seconds indicates excessive vehicle magnetism and the vehicle should be demagnetized. Normal Operation
The HomeLink® universal transmitter is integral to the left sun visor assembly. Under normal operation the HomeLink® universal transmitter can be programmed to operate up to three garage doors, entry gates, security systems, and home or office lighting. Voltage is provided to the vanity mirror via circuit 29S-LB16 (OG/GN). Circuit 31-LB16 (BK) supplies the vanity mirror ground.
Battery voltage is supplied to the navigation system module through circuit 30-GK8 (RD/BK). The driver door module (DDM) supplies voltage to the navigation system module through circuit 10-GK8 (GY/BK) in the ON/ACC position. Circuit 31-GK8 (BK/RD) provides the navigation system module ground.
The GPS antenna provides information from the GPS satellite system to the GPS receiver in the navigation system module. This information is used to calculate vehicle position and direction of travel.
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) module supplies the vehicle speed signal (VSS) to the navigation system module through circuit 8-CF63 (WH/GN). The navigation system uses the VSS signal and the global positioning system (GPS) antenna to establish vehicle speed and position.
The navigation system module provides voice-assisted route guidance to the audio unit through the audio circuits 1-GK18 (WH/BU) and 2-GK18 (GY/VT). The volume of the voice guidance is controlled by the audio unit.
The audio unit display is controlled by the navigation system module. Video color is provided through circuits 10-GK24(GY/RD), 10-GK25 (GY/OG), and 10-GK26 (GY/VT). Circuit 8-GK35 (WH) provides the color synchronization and circuit 9-GK35 (BN) is the video signal return.
The screen display of the audio and navigation is controlled by the navigation system module. A map digital versatile disc (DVD) stored in the navigation system module sends route data to the audio unit through the video interface circuits
The audible switch feedback settings are controlled by the audio unit. The notification can be set to all, touch screen, and none depending on user preference.
The navigation map disc is contained in the navigation system module. The voltage is supplied to the navigation system module with the key in the ON or ACC position through 10-GK8 (GY/BK). Circuit 31-GK8 (BK/RD) supplies the navigation system module ground.
The navigation system module communicates to the audio unit through circuits 5-GK8 (BU/YE) and 4-GK8 (GY/BK) using the controller area network (CAN) protocol. Battery voltage is supplied to the audio unit through circuit 29-MD15 (OG/BK). Circuit 10-MD15 (GY/OG) provides voltage to the audio unit with the key in the ON or ACC position. The audio unit ground is supplied through circuits 31-MD15B (BK/GN) and 31-MD15A(BK/GN).
The navigation system microphone is integrated into the rear view mirror. The microphone supplies a voice signal to the navigation system module through circuits 8-MC8 (WH/RD) and 9-MC8 (BN/RD). The rear view mirror receives switched B+ voltage through circuit 75-AD15 (YE/BU). Circuit 31-AD15 (BK) provides the mirror ground.
The navigation system module receives a vehicle in reverse signal from the powertrain control module (PCM) through the standard corporate protocol (SCP) network.
The compass display and module are integrated into the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror receives switched B+ voltage via circuit 75-AD15 (YE/BU). Circuit 31-AD15 (BK/OG) provides the mirror ground.
