REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected or modules are replaced, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
- On models equipped with rain-sensitive wipers, push up on rain sensor module cover while rotating the top of cover toward rear of vehicle. Remove cover. Pull latch on harness connector away from harness and disconnect harness connector. Release rain sensor by applying inward pressure on module and release module retaining slides. Remove module.
- On all vehicles, disconnect harness connectors at rear of mirror. Grasp mirror firmly, insert Mirror Remover (T91T-17700-A) or screwdriver into slot and press retaining spring. Slide mirror upward and away from mounting bracket. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure windshield area between rain sensor module brackets is clean.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument panel steering column cover. Disconnect harness connectors. Remove upper finish panel. Disconnect mirror control switch harness connector. Remove mirror control switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove door trim panel. Remove interior garnish molding. Disconnect mirror harness connector. Remove mirror attaching nuts. Remove mirror assembly while guiding wiring and connector through hole in door. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal
- Rotate mirror glass to maximum upward travel. Insert flat blade screwdriver between mirror shell and glass on bottom edge about 1" (25.4 mm) from lower inside corner of glass. Place hand and shop towel over mirror glass, to keep it from falling out.
- Gently pry downward on screwdriver until snap is hear and mirror glass loosens from mirror motor. If glass does not come loose, move screwdriver to lower outside corner of mirror about 1" (25.4 mm) from outside corner. Gently pry downward. Glass will snap out without being damaged. Disconnect harness connectors. Remove motor attaching screws. Disconnect motor harness connector, and remove motor.
Installation
Connect motor harness connector. Place motor in mirror shell and install mounting screws. Tighten screws to 18 INCH lbs. (2 N.m). Align mirror glass locating tabs with slots in mirror motor. Place shop towel over glass. Press inward with the palm of the hand until glass locks in place.
