DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Power outside rear view mirror system consists of mirror head with integral servomotor assembly. Memory mirror is controlled by Driver's Door Module (DDM) and Front Electronics Module (FEM). Outside rear view mirror glass and motor can be replaced separately. Outside mirrors are equipped with heating elements (optional). Rear window defogger switch controls operation of heated outside mirrors. Heated mirror power is supplied by the rear window defogger relay through a separate fuse in the Battery Junction Box (BJB).
The memory system allows 2 seat/mirror/steering column preferred positions to be programmed. Mirrors can be adjusted using mirror control switch on driver's door trim panel. Seat/mirrors/steering column will automatically move to preset position(s) by pressing memory button 1 or 2 or appropriate remote transmitter unlock button. Seat/mirror/steering column positions are constantly monitored by DDM and FEM. The memory seat/mirror/steering column feature operates only with transmission in Park or Neutral, with ignition switch in LOCK or RUN position.
The optional inside electronic dimming rear view mirror is controlled by Rear Electronics Module (REM) which receives input from 2 light-sensitive photocells and gearshift position from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Outside light level is measured by a sensor on backside of mirror housing. A second sensor, located on reflective side of mirror, detects approaching rear lights. The mirror switches to normal state whenever transmission gear selector is placed in Reverse. The driver's side outside rear view mirror is available with a similar glare reduction system as an option.
Power mirror functions are powered by Switched System Power (SSP) feature. This function removes power from relays (after 30 minutes with ignition switch in LOCK position and no input signals are received) that provide power to multiple features and functions when REM and FEM are in sleep mode. A failure of any or all of SSP features could cause power mirror failure. When diagnosing power mirrors, it is essential to determine if all related symptoms and DTCs are controlled by SSP feature.
