Module Communications Network: Overview Lincoln LS I

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

The module communications network provides the ability for module-to-module communication by sharing inputs and outputs instead of each component having an input and output wired directly to each module. A BUS which consists of a pair of twisted wires is used to transfer information between each module. The bus network is also referred to as Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP). The bus consists of a positive (+) circuit and a negative (-) circuit. The bus is routed throughout the vehicle to each module except the Restraints Control Module (RCM).

RCM does not use the bus to communicate with other modules. The restraints control module is connected to the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 diagnostic communications network through a single wire. Both networks are connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC). This article is used to diagnose the bus and ISO communications network circuit faults. For module locations, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS .

ACCESSING PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID)

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Following manufacturers instructions enter PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD for desired module. Operate appropriate system and ensure PID expected values are obtained. See appropriate table under PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID) DEFINITIONS .

PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID) DEFINITIONS

Note. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module is referred to as a Stability Assist Module (SAM) if vehicle is equipped with traction control and stability assist. Audio Control Module (ACM) may also be referred to as audio unit. Next Generation Speed Control (NGSC) servo is an integral part of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Message center module is an integral part of the instrument cluster.
