SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
Note. Test procedures are written specifically for New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Generic scan tools may not have the capability of performing all the same functions. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions.
INSPECTION & VERIFICATION
- Verify customer's original problem by operating system in question. Inspect vehicle for any obvious electrical component wiring or connector damage. Inspect harness connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check fuses No. 206 (10-amp) and No. 232 (20-amp) in central junction box and related fuses for system in question.
- Inspect 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) pins for damage. (Scheme 1) DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. If pins are okay, go to next step. If pins are damaged, repair as necessary and proceed to next step.
- If problem is still present after performing inspection, connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to DLC. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu. If NGS tester does not communicate with vehicle, ensure program card is properly installed. Check NGS tester cable connections and ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. If NGS tester still does not communicate with vehicle, go to «TEST O: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - NO POWER TO NGS TESTER»(ref-2592-S27489681422000040700000) under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester communicates with vehicle, perform data link diagnostic procedure. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000).

DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST
Note. International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 diagnostic communications network circuit is the Gray/Black wire connected to terminal No. 7 on DLC. BUS (+) circuit is the Gray/Red wire connected to terminal No. 2 on DLC. BUS (-) circuit is the Blue/Red wire connected to terminal No. 10 on DLC.
Note. Remote Emergency Satellite Cellular Unit (RESCU) module, Driver's Seat Module (DSM) and Steering Column Lock Module (SCLM) will fail data link diagnostic test if vehicle is not equipped with that module(s). Vehicles with voice activated cellular phone are equipped with a RESCU module. Vehicles with memory seats are equipped with a DSM. Vehicles with a manual transmission are equipped with a SCLM. SCLM will not communicate until SCL actuator is activated. To activate SCL actuator, remove key from ignition and open driver's door. SCL activator will remain activated for 30 minutes.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), if not already connected. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on the BUS network and the ISO 9141 network.
- If NGS tester displays CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED, module communications network is okay. If NGS tester displays CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, ISO 9141 communication link is operating properly. Repair communication concern by symptom. See «SYMPTOM INDEX»(ref-2592-S36143048312000040700000) table to continue diagnosis.
- If NGS tester does not display CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED, CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, perform the following as applicable: If no response from NGS tester, perform «TEST O: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - NO POWER TO NGS TESTER»(ref-2592-S27489681422000040700000) under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays CKT 70, CKT 914 and/or CKT 915 = SOME ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair communication concern by symptom. See «SYMPTOM INDEX»(ref-2592-S36143048312000040700000) table to continue diagnosis. If NGS tester displays CKT 70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, perform «TEST C: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER»(ref-2592-S24989196652000040700000) under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays CKT 914 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, perform «TEST N: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - SCP BUS LINK»(ref-2592-S11251867292000040700000) under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays CKT 915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, perform «TEST N: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - SCP BUS LINK»(ref-2592-S11251867292000040700000) under SYSTEM TESTS. If module in question is NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, repair communication concern by symptom. See «SYMPTOM INDEX»(ref-2592-S36143048312000040700000) table to continue diagnosis. If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), repair communication concern by symptom. See «SYMPTOM INDEX»(ref-2592-S36143048312000040700000) table to continue diagnosis. RETRIEVING & CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Following manufacturers instructions to retrieve and clear codes for desired module. See appropriate table under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS for a listing of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and appropriate test procedure.
TEST A: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
Note. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module may be referred to as a Stability Assist Module (SAM) if vehicle is equipped with traction control and stability assist.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ABS module harness connector, located in right front of engine compartment. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect ABS module harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect ABS module harness connector and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates ABS: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ABS: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ABS module harness connector. Disconnect NGS tester. On vehicle without stability assist, measure resistance between terminal No. 11 (Gray wire) at ABS module harness connector and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). On vehicles with stability assist, measure resistance between terminal No. 17 (Gray wire) at ABS module harness connector and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at DLC. On all vehicles, resistance should be 5 ohms or less. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, replace ABS module and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- On vehicle without stability assist, measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 5 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 11 at ABS module harness connector. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). On vehicle with stability assist, measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 5 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 17 at ABS module harness connector. On all vehicles, resistance should be 5 ohms or less. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and ABS module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 5 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ABS module harness connector. Disconnect NGS tester. On vehicle without stability assist, measure resistance between terminal No. 10 (Blue wire) at ABS module harness connector and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). On vehicle with stability assist, measure resistance between terminal No. 19 (Blue wire) at ABS module harness connector and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at DLC. On all vehicles, resistance should be 5 ohms or less. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, replace ABS module and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- On vehicle without stability assist, measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 6 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 10 at ABS module harness connector. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). On vehicle with stability assist, measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 6 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 19 at ABS module harness connector. On all vehicles, resistance should be 5 ohms or less. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and ABS module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 6 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST B: FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c, located behind driver's side kick panel. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect FEM harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect FEM harness connector C201c and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates FEM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates FEM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 (Gray wire) at FEM harness connector C201c and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace FEM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 10 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 7 at FEM harness connector C201c. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and FEM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 10 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Blue wire) at FEM harness connector C201c and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace FEM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 8 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 1 at FEM harness connector C201c. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and FEM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 8 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST C: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Deactivate air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect RCM harness connector C310a, located under center console. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 (Gray wire) at RCM harness connector C310a and terminal No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 8). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, perform «TEST M: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - ISO 9141 LINK»(ref-2592-S17631544982000040700000).
- Disconnect in-line harness connector C212, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 8 at male side of in-line harness connector C212 and terminal No. 7 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 9). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in wiring between in-line harness connector C212 and RCM. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Black wire between DLC and in-line harness connector C212. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST D: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220b. Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect instrument cluster harness connector C220b and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates ICM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ICM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance between terminal No. 15 (Gray/Violet wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C220b and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 10). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray/Violet wire between terminal No. 13 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 15 at instrument cluster harness connector C220b. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 10). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Violet wire between joint connector No. 4 and instrument cluster. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 13 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance between terminal No. 16 (Blue/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C220b and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 10). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue/White wire between terminal No. 10 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at instrument cluster harness connector C220b. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 10). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/White wire between joint connector No. 4 and instrument cluster. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 10 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST E: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
Note. If test results indicate PCM is faulty, always check for any engine performance related DTC prior to replacing PCM. If any DTCs are present, service DTCs as necessary and retest. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM harness connector C175a, located in right rear corner of engine compartment. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect PCM harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect PCM harness connector and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates PCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates PCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM harness connector C175a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 3 (Gray wire) at PCM harness connector C175a and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace PCM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 4 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 3 at PCM harness connector C201c. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and PCM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM harness connector C175a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 (Blue wire) at PCM harness connector C175a and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace PCM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 1 at AJB harness connector C283c and terminal No. 4 at PCM harness connector C175a. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and PCM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 at AJB connector C283c and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST F: DUAL AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (DATC) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DATC module harness connector C228a. Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect DATC module harness connector C228a and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates DATC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates DATC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect DATC module harness connector C228a. Measure resistance between terminal No. 12 (Gray/Black wire) at DATC module harness connector C228a and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DATC module and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 15 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at DATC module harness connector C228a. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Black wire between joint connector No. 4 and DATC module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 14 and 15 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect DATC module harness connector C228a. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Blue/Yellow wire) at DATC module harness connector C228a and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DATC module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue/Yellow wire between terminal No. 8 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 1 at DATC module harness connector C228a. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire between joint connector No. 4 and DATC module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 8 and 9 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST G: AUDIO CONTROL MODULE (ACM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ACM harness connector C240a. Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect ACM harness connector C240a and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates ACM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ACM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect ACM harness connector C240a. Measure resistance between terminal No. 3 (Gray/Black wire) at ACM harness connector C240a and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace ACM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 16 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 3 at ACM harness connector C240a. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Black wire between joint connector No. 4 and ACM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 14 and 16 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect ACM harness connector C240a. Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 (Blue/Yellow wire) at ACM harness connector C240a and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace ACM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue/Yellow wire between terminal No. 7 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 4 at ACM harness connector C240a. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire between joint connector No. 4 and ACM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 7 and 9 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST H: STEERING COLUMN LOCK MODULE (SCLM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER (M/T ONLY)
Note. Steering Column Lock Module (SCLM) will fail data link diagnostic test if vehicle is not equipped with this module. Vehicles with a manual transmission are equipped with a SCLM. SCLM will not communicate until SCL actuator is activated. To activate SCL actuator, remove key from ignition and open driver's door. SCL activator will remain activated for 30 minutes.
Note. Steering Column Lock Module (SCLM) may also be referred to as a Steering Column Lock Unit (SCLU) or steering column lock.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect SCLM harness connector C267. Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect SCLM harness connector C267 and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates SCLU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates SCLU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect SCLM harness connector C267. Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 (Gray/Orange wire) at SCLM harness connector C267 and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace SCLM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray/Orange wire between terminal No. 17 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 4 at SCLM harness connector C267. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Orange wire between joint connector No. 4 and SCLM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 14 and 17 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect SCLM harness connector C267. Measure resistance between terminal No. 3 (Blue/Black wire) at SCLM harness connector C267 and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace SCLM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 6 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 3 at SCLM harness connector C267. (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Black wire between joint connector No. 4 and SCLM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 6 and 9 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST I: REMOTE EMERGENCY SATELLITE CELLULAR UNIT (RESCU) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
Note. Remote Emergency Satellite Cellular Unit (RESCU) module will fail data link diagnostic test if vehicle is not equipped with this module. Vehicles with voice activated cellular phone are equipped with a RESCU module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RESCU module harness connector C401a, located in left side of trunk compartment. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect RESCU module harness connector C401a and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates RESCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates RESCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RESCU module harness connector C401a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 11 (Gray/Black wire) at RESCU module harness connector C401a and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 15). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace RESCU module and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283b, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 8 at AJB harness connector C283b and terminal No. 11 at RESCU module harness connector C401a. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 15). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Black wire between AJB and RESCU module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 8 at AJB connector C283b and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RESCU module harness connector C401a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 5 (Blue/Yellow wire) at RESCU module harness connector C401a and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 15). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace RESCU module and retest system for normal operation.

If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Blue/Yellow wire between terminal No. 4 at AJB harness connector C283b and terminal No. 5 at RESCU module harness connector C401a. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 15). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire between AJB and RESCU module. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 at AJB connector C283b and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST J: DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE (DSM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
Note. Driver's Seat Module (DSM) will fail data link diagnostic test if vehicle is not equipped with this module. Vehicles with memory seats are equipped with a DSM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c, located under driver's seat. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect DSM harness connector C401a and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 10.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Gray/White wire) at DSM harness connector C341c and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283a, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray/White wire between terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283a and terminal No. 1 at DSM harness connector C341c. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 7.
- Disconnect in-line harness connector C315, located under driver' seat. Measure resistance in Gray/White wire between terminal No. 6 at male half of in-line harness connector C315 and terminal No. 1 at DSM harness connector C341c. (Scheme 16)and (Scheme 17). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/White wire between in-line harness connector and AJB. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/White wire between in-line harness connector C315 and DSM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283a and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 9 (Blue/Orange wire) at DSM harness connector C341c and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283a, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Blue/Orange wire between terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283a and terminal No. 9 at DSM harness connector C341c. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 14. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect in-line harness connector C315, located under driver' seat. Measure resistance in Blue/Orange wire between terminal No. 13 at male half of in-line harness connector C315 and terminal No. 9 at DSM harness connector C341c. (Scheme 16)and (Scheme 17). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Orange wire between in-line harness connector and AJB. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Orange wire between in-line harness connector C315 and DSM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283a and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST K: DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE (DDM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DDM harness connector C501a, located behind driver's door panel. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect DDM harness connector C501a and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DDM harness connector C501a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 3 (Gray/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C501a and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DDM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283a, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray/Orange wire between terminal No. 8 at AJB harness connector C283a and terminal No. 3 at DDM harness connector C501a. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Orange wire between AJB and DDM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 8 at AJB connector C283a and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DDM harness connector C501a. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 (Blue/Black wire) at DDM harness connector C501a and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DDM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283a, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 4 at AJB harness connector C283a and terminal No. 4 at DDM harness connector C501a. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Black wire between AJB and DDM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 at AJB connector C283a and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST L: REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM harness connector C420b, located on right side of trunk compartment. Disconnect NGS tester (if connected). Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect REM harness connector C420b and connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If NGS tester indicates REM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester indicates REM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM harness connector C420b. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Gray/White wire) at REM harness connector C420b and terminal No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 19). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace REM and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283b, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Inspect harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair harness connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance in Gray/White wire between terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283b and terminal No. 1 at REM harness connector C420b. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 19). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/White wire between AJB and REM. Retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283b and terminal No. 16 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray wire between terminal No. 12 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 16 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Gray/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM harness connector C420b. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance between terminal No. 2 (Blue/Orange wire) at REM harness connector C420b and terminal No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 19). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace REM and retest system for normal operation.

- Disconnect AJB harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283b and terminal No. 12 at AJB connector C283d (component side). (Scheme 4) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace AJB and retest system for normal operation.
- Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 12 at AJB harness connector C283d. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue wire between AJB and joint connector No. 4. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.

TEST M: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - ISO 9141 LINK
Note. Depending on module configuration, with all modules connected and with ignition switch in RUN position or with engine running, 2-3 volts may be present at Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 7 (Gray/Black wire). This is the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 diagnostic communications network circuit.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1) If voltage is not indicated in both measurements, go to next step. If voltage is indicated in both measurements, replace Restraints Control Module (RCM).
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module harness connector, located in right front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. If voltage is not indicated in both measurements, go to next step. If voltage is indicated in both measurements, replace ABS module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect in-line harness connector C211, located behind driver's side kick panel. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. If voltage is not indicated in both measurements, go to next step. If voltage is indicated in both measurement, repair short to ground or voltage in Gray wire between in-line harness connector C211 and ABS module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect in-line harness connector C212, located behind driver's side kick panel. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. If voltage is indicated in either measurement, repair short to ground or voltage in Gray/Black wire between in-line harness connector C212 and DLC. If voltage is not indicated in either measurement, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Deactivate air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect Restraints Control Module (RCM) harness connector C310a, located under center console. Connect in-line harness connector C212. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Gray/Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. If voltage is indicated in either measurement, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between in-line harness connector C212, RCM and in-line harness connector C211. If voltage is not indicated in either measurement, replace RCM.
TEST N: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - SCP BUS LINK
Note. Depending on module configuration, with all modules connected and with ignition switch in RUN position or with engine running, 2-3 volts may be present at Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) and No. 10 (Blue/Red wire). These are the Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) diagnostic communications network circuits.
Note. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module is referred to as a Stability Assist Module (SAM) if vehicle is equipped with traction control and stability assist. Audio Control Module (ACM) may also be referred to as audio unit. Next Generation Speed Control (NGSC) servo is an integral part of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Message center module is an integral part of the instrument cluster. Steering Column Lock Module (SCLM) may also be referred to as a Steering Column Lock Unit (SCLU) or steering column lock.
Note. Remote Emergency Satellite Cellular Unit (RESCU) module, Driver's Seat Module (DSM) and Steering Column Lock Module (SCLM) will fail data link diagnostic test if vehicle is not equipped with that module(s). Vehicles with voice activated cellular phone are equipped with a RESCU module. Vehicles with memory seats are equipped with a DSM. Vehicles with a manual transmission are equipped with a SCLM.
- Inspect NGS tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. If problem exists, repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223, located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Gray/Red wire between terminal No. 14 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 5). Measure resistance in Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 9 at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. If both resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If either resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between joint connector No. 4 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) Measure voltage between terminal No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) Measure voltage between terminal No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) and No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at DLC. If voltage is indicated in any measurement, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between DLC and joint connector No. 4. If voltage is not indicated in any measurement, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between terminals No. 9 and 11 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). (Scheme 6) Measure resistance between terminals No. 12 and 14 at joint connector No. 4 (component side). If both resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If either resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace joint connector No. 4 and retest system for normal operation.
- Connect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223. Disconnect Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) harness connector C283d, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If ACM, ICM, DATC module and/or SCLM (if equipped) did not pass, go to next step. If ACM, ICM, DATC module and SCLM (if equipped) all passed, go to step 13.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ACM harness connector C240a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If ACM, ICM, DATC module and SCLM did not pass, go to next step if equipped with SCLM or go to step 11 if not equipped with SCLM. If ICM, DATC module and SCLM all passed, replace ACM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect SCLM harness connector C267. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If ACM, ICM, DATC module and SCLM did not pass, go to next step. If ICM and DATC module both passed, replace SCLM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect in-line harness connector C248, located above steering column "U" joint. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If ACM, ICM, DATC and SCLM did not pass, go to next step. If ICM and DATC module both passed, repair short to ground or voltage in Gray/Orange wire between in-line harness connector C248 and SCLM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DATC module harness connector C228a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If ACM, ICM, DATC module and SCLM did not pass, go to next step. If ICM passed, replace DATC module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 2 (Gray/Red wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 10 (Blue/Red wire) and No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. If voltage is not indicated in all measurements, go to next step. If voltage is indicated in all measurements, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminal No. 4 (Black wire) at DLC and appropriate terminals at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223. Measure voltage between terminal No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC and appropriate terminals at joint connector No. 4 harness connector C223. See «BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION»(ref-2592-S27690281772000040700000) table. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 5). If voltage is indicated in any measurement, repair short to ground or voltage in appropriate circuit. If voltage is not indicated in any measurement, replace joint connector No. 4. BUS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION Terminal No. Wire Color 6 (1) Blue/Black 7 Blue/Yellow 8 Blue/Yellow 10 Blue/White 11 Blue 12 Gray 13 Gray/Violet wire 15 Gray/Black 16 Gray/Black 17 (1) Gray/Orange (1) This circuit only exists if vehicle is equipped with SCLM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect AJB harness connector C283d. Disconnect AJB harness connector C283a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If only DDM and DSM did not pass, go to next step. If more than DDM and DSM did not pass, go to step 17.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect AJB harness connector C283a. Disconnect DDM harness connector C501a, located behind driver's door panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If only DDM did not pass, replace DDM. If more than DDM did not pass, go to next step.
- If vehicle is equipped with DSM, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with DSM, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between AJB and DDM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c, located under driver's seat. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If only DDM and DSM did not pass, replace DSM. If more than DDM and DSM did not pass, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between AJB and DSM, or between AJB and DDM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect AJB harness connector C283b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If only DDM, REM, DSM and RESCU module (if equipped) did not pass, go to next step. If more than DDM, REM, DSM and RESCU module (if equipped) did not pass, go to step 22.
- If vehicle is equipped with RESCU module, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with RESCU module, go to step 21.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect AJB harness connector C283b. Disconnect RESCU module harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. - Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM 22-pin harness connector C420b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform data link diagnostic test. See «DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-2592-S00093988872000040700000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If only DDM, REM, DSM and RESCU module did not pass, replace REM. If more than DDM, REM, DSM and RESCU module did not pass, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between AJB and REM, or between AJB and RESCU module.

If more than DDM, REM, FEM, ABS control module, PCM, DSM and RESCU module (if equipped) did not pass, repair short to ground or voltage in wiring between AJB and FEM, ABS control module, PCM and/or ABS test connector.
TEST O: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - NO POWER TO NGS TESTER
- Inspect NGS tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Inspect fuse No. 206 (10-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system for normal operation. Recheck fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Orange/Yellow wire between instrument panel fuse block and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 16 (Orange/Yellow wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Orange/Yellow wire between instrument panel fuse block and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Brown wire) at DLC. If both resistances are 5 ohms or less, repair or replace NGS tester. Retest system for normal operation. If either resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire or Brown wire between ground and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
