  1. Remove the fill plug and check the fluid level. If the fluid is below the correct level, fill the transfer case with automatic transmission fluid.

  1. Remove the upper radiator fan shroud. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-193003) .
  2. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to «DRIVELINE SYSTEM»(ref-192998) .
  3. Remove the front driveshaft. For additional information, refer to «DRIVELINE SYSTEM»(ref-192998) .
  4. Remove the four bolts and the skid plate, if equipped.
  5. Drain the fluid if the transfer case is to be disassembled. For additional information, refer to «TRANSFER CASE DRAINING AND FILLING»(ref-193007-S09535121862005092300000) .
  6. Remove the RH and LH heat shield-to-crossmember bolts.
  7. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Position a suitable transmission jack to the transfer case. Securely strap the transfer case to the jack.

  1. Remove the transfer case from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to «TRANSFER CASE»(ref-193007-S29481568852005092300000) .
  2. Using the special tool, secure the transfer case to a bench.
  3. Remove the dampener.
  4. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid, if not done previously. Install the drain plug when finished draining.
  5. Index-mark the rear output flange and the upper output shaft.
  6. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration.
  7. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
