SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
- FRONT WIPER SYSTEM The front wiper system receives wiper operation signals from the combination switch, and the passenger side junction block ECU operates the wiper motor. When the wiper motor is operating intermittently based on signals from the combination switch, the passenger side junction block ECU adjusts the intermittent interval based on the following: 1) vehicle speed, brake signals, etc., and 2) vehicle driving / stopping conditions. FRONT WIPER FUNCTION CHART Function Outline Vehicle speed-sensing, adjustable interval INT function Function controls interval time of wipers in accordance with vehicle speed when wiper switch is in INT position Interval time can be adjusted between approx. 1.5 to 12.5 seconds by operating interval time adjusting knob Interval adjustable range changes automatically in three steps depending on vehicle speed Vehicle speed switching function This function automatically changes wiper system to intermittent operation when wiper switch is in LO position and vehicle is stopped Drip-preventive function After washer-linked function has completed, wipers operate once again to wipe off washer fluid that has dripped
- FRONT WASHER SYSTEM The front washer system receives wiper operation signals from the combination switch, and the front light ECU operates the washer motor. The system has the following function. - HEADLIGHT CLEANER SYSTEM The headlight cleaner system operates when the headlights are illuminated and the headlight cleaner switch is ON. It also operates when the headlights are illuminated and the front wiper washer system is operating. It does not, however, operate when the daytime driving light system is operating.
DESCRIPTION
The passenger side junction block ECU controls the wiper motor. Even if the ECU is malfunctioning, the wiper motor circuit is designed so that the wiper can still function in HI mode.

- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY INTELLIGENT TESTER (WIPER MOTOR) Select the ACTIVE TEST, use the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to generate a control command, and then check that the wiper motor operates. - INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY Check operation. Remove the windshield wiper motor. Apply battery voltage to the wiper motor connector and check the operation of the wiper motor. Using a service wire, connect terminals 5 (+1) and 1 (S). Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 (B). Check that the motor operates again and stops at the stop position. - CHECK WIRE HARNESS (PASSENGER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ECU - MOTOR) Disconnect the 3D junction block connector. The passenger side junction block ECU receives the wiper switch HI position signal and activates the wiper motor at HI speed.

The front light ECU receives washer fluid level sensor information, and sends it through the multiplex communication system to the combination meter. The combination meter receives this information and illuminates the washer fluid level warning light when the washer fluid is less than a predetermined value.

- INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY Apply MP grease to the crank arm pivot of the wiper motor. Install the wiper motor. Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) (Scheme 34): Identifying Grease Applying Area Align the matchmarks on the crank arm and wiper motor. Install the washer and nut. - INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER LINK ASSEMBLY Install the link with the 4 bolts. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) Connect the connector. (Scheme 36): Locating Link With Bolts
- INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Attach the 8 claws to install the louver. (Scheme 37): Identifying Louver And Claws Attach the 5 claws and install the 4 clips. (Scheme 38): Identifying Claws And Clips
- INSTALL FRONT WIPER ARM LH Stop the wiper at the automatic stop position. Clean the wiper arm serration with a round file or equivalent. Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush. (Scheme 39): Cleaning Wiper Pivot Serration Using Wire Brush Install the arm and blade with the nut. Make sure that the arm and blade comes to the position shown in the illustration. Torque: 22 N*m (220 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL FRONT WIPER ARM RH Stop the wiper at the automatic stop position. Scrape off the wiper arm serration with a round file or equivalent. Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush. Install the arm and blade with the nut. Make sure that the arm and blade comes to the position shown in the illustration. (Scheme 40): Identifying Wipers Automatic Stop Position Torque: 22 N*m (220 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf) Operate the wipers while spraying water or washer fluid on the windshield. Check the wiping condition and that the wiper does not hit against the vehicle body.
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform initialization (see «INITIALIZATION»(ref-283168-S15934672912008041900000) ). NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
