SERVICE INTERVALS

Under normal driving conditions, inspect transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. Under severe conditions such as trailer towing, police, taxi, local delivery service or operating under dusty conditions, replace transmission fluid every 60,000 miles.

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

  1. Check transmission fluid with engine and transmission at 158-176°F (70-80°C).
  2. Park vehicle on a level surface and set parking brake.
  3. With engine idling and parking brake engaged, move shift lever from Park to Low and return to Park.
  4. Remove and clean dipstick.
  5. Insert dipstick fully into oil filler tube.
  6. Remove dipstick and verify fluid level is in HOT range on dipstick.
  7. Add fluid as necessary.

Manufacturer recommends Lexus/Toyota Type T-IV ATF.

DRAINING & REFILLING

  1. Remove drain plug to drain fluid. (Scheme 81)
  2. If transmission oil filter is to be changed, remove oil pan using the following steps: Remove 19 bolts. Install gasket cutter in space between pan and transmission body and carefully cut old sealer around entire surface of pan. (Scheme 82)
  3. Remove oil filter using the following steps: Remove 4 bolts and oil filter. (Scheme 83) Remove 3 gaskets.
  4. Clean transmission oil pan using magnets located in oil pan and use them to collect any steel chips. Look carefully at chips and particles in pan and on magnet to anticipate the type of wear you will find in transmission. Steel is magnetic and typically results from bearing, gear and clutch plate wear. Brass is non-magnetic and typically results from bushing wear. Remove and clean magnets in pan of all metal particles.
  5. Install oil filter and new gaskets. (Scheme 83)
  6. Install transmission oil pan using the following steps: Install 3 magnets in oil pan. Remove any packing material and be careful not to drop oil on any of the contacting surfaces of transmission case and oil pan. Apply appropriate sealant to oil pan. (Scheme 84) Install 19 bolts and replace bolt "A" only. (Scheme 81) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156545-S19235586962003072200000).
  7. Install drain plug with new gasket. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156545-S19235586962003072200000).
  8. With engine off, add new fluid through oil filler tube.
  9. Start engine and move gearshift lever through all positions. Place gearshift lever back into Park. Check fluid level. Add fluid to bring level up to COOL mark on dipstick.
  10. Recheck fluid level when engine and transmission reaches operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C). Add fluid up to HOT mark on dipstick. See «FLUID CAPACITIES»(ref-156545-S06141710822003072200000).
