REMOVAL [07/2012 - ]

  1. PRECAUTION NOTE: After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work. Refer to «PRECAUTION [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602551-S11461672722014030500000) .
  2. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602723-S18485877112014030500000) .
  3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
  4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT [07/2012 - ] - Step 6»(ref-602691-S38666908842014030500000)
  5. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «REMOVAL [07/2012 - ] - Step 9»(ref-602687-S07497115562014030500000)
  6. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «REMOVAL [07/2012 - ] - Step 34»(ref-602689-S23172420682014030500000)
  7. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. Refer to «PRECAUTION [07/2012 - ]»(ref-602724-S13282392072014030500000) . NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [07/2012 - ]»(ref-602551-S38908041872014030500000) .
  8. REMOVE BATTERY . Refer to «REMOVAL [07/2012 - ] - Step 37»(ref-602689-S23172420682014030500000)
  9. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR CLEANER INLET . Refer to «REMOVAL [07/2012 - ] - Step 35»(ref-602689-S23172420682014030500000)

  13. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness clamp to separate the engine wire. Disconnect the 4 oil control valve connectors. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 oil control valves. Remove the O-ring from each oil control valve. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 O-ring

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance of the oil control valve. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (+B) - 2 (GND) 6.9 to 7.9 ohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve assembly. Check the operation. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to terminal 1 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the movement of the valve. OK Condition Specified Condition Battery positive (+) voltage is applied Valve moves in black arrow direction shown in illustration Battery positive (+) voltage is cut off Valve moves in white arrow direction shown in illustration TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Spool Valve *2 Battery If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve. NOTE: Accumulation of foreign matter can cause minor pressure leaks. Minor pressure leaks in the intake side oil control valve will cause the intake camshaft to advance. Minor pressure leaks in the exhaust side oil control valve will cause the exhaust camshaft to retard. The inappropriate camshaft timing that results from these leaks will cause a DTC to be set.
