  1. PRECAUTION NOTE: After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notice before proceeding with work. Refer to «PRECAUTION [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602551-S11461672722014030500000) .
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [03/2012 - 07/2012]»(ref-602551-S24591545042014030500000) .
  3. REMOVE TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY . Refer to «REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] - Step 3»(ref-602713-S03873186432014030500000)
  4. REMOVE CHARCOAL CANISTER PROTECTOR Remove the 3 bolts and charcoal canister protector.
  5. REMOVE CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY Using a screwdriver, pry up the retainer. HINT: Do not remove the retainer. Disconnect the purge line hose. Disconnect the air inlet line tube from the charcoal canister assembly (leak detection pump). Disconnect the connector from the charcoal canister assembly (leak detection pump). Disconnect the vent line tube from the charcoal canister assembly. NOTE: Remove any dirt or foreign matter on the fuel tube connector before performing this work. Do not allow any scratches or foreign matter on the parts when disconnecting them as the fuel tube connector has an O-ring that seals the pipe. Perform this work by hand. Do not use any tools. Do not forcibly bend, twist or turn the nylon tube. Protect the disconnected part by covering it with a plastic bag after disconnecting the vent line tube. If the fuel tube connector and pipe are stuck, push and pull to release them. Remove the 3 nuts, 2 clips and charcoal canister assembly.

  1. INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY Visually check the charcoal canister assembly. Visually check the charcoal canister for cracks or damage. If cracks or damage are found, replace the charcoal canister assembly. Check canister operation. With the purge port closed, blow 5 kPa (0.1 kgf/cm 2 , 0.7 psi) of air into the vent port, and check that air flows from the air inlet port. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Vent Port *2 Air *3 Air Inlet Port *4 Purge Port If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly. With the vent port closed, blow 5 kPa (0.1 kgf/cm 2 , 0.7 psi) of air into the air inlet port, and check that air flows from the purge port. Connect a pressure gauge to the vent port of the charcoal canister. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Purge Port *2 Air Inlet Port *3 Vent Port *4 Pressure Gauge With the purge port and the air inlet port closed, apply 20 kPa (150 mmHg, 5.91 in.Hg) of pressurized air into the vent port, then confirm that pressure is retained for 1 minute. If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly. Check the leak detection pump. Connect the positive (+) lead of the battery to terminal 5 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1. Check that a clicking sound is heard from the leak detection pump. If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly.

  1. INSTALL CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY Install the charcoal canister assembly with the 3 nuts and 2 clips. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) Connect the air inlet line tube to the charcoal canister assembly (leak detection pump). Connect the vent line tube. Connect the pipe to the fuel tube connector, as shown in A in the illustration. Then push up the retainer to lock the claws, as shown in B in the illustration. NOTE: Check that there are no scratches or foreign matter around the connected part of the fuel tube connector and pipe before performing this work. After connecting the vent line tube, check that the vent line tube is securely connected by pulling the fuel tube connector and pipe. Connect the purge line hose. Connect the connector to the charcoal canister assembly (leak detection pump).
  2. INSTALL CHARCOAL CANISTER PROTECTOR Install the charcoal canister protector with the 3 bolts. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf)
  3. INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION [03/2012 - ] - Step 6»(ref-602713-S28518950272014030500000)
  4. CONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [03/2012 - 07/2012]»(ref-602551-S24591545042014030500000) .
