Removal

Note. Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the pivot bolt, adjusting lock bolt, and adjusting bolt, and remove the drive belt. (Scheme 7)
  3. Disconnect the generator connector. Remove the nut, and disconnect the generator wire. Disconnect the wire harness from the clip. Remove the pivot bolt, plate washer, adjusting lock bolt and generator. Remove generator.

Installation

  1. Install generator. Mount generator on the generator bracket with the pivot bolt and adjusting lock bolt. (Scheme 7) Do not tighten the bolts yet. Connect the generator connector. Connect the generator wire with the nut.
  2. Install drive belt. Install the drive belt with the adjusting bolt. Using a belt tension gauge, measure the drive belt tension. See «BELT TENSION»(ref-4364-S12045469072000062100000).
  3. Tighten the pivot bolt and adjusting lock bolt. Torque: 56 Nm (570 kgfcm, 41 ftlbf) for pivot bolt, 18 Nm (180 kgfcm, 13 ftlbf) for lock bolt * After installing a belt, check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves. Check by hand to confirm that the belt has not slip out of the groove on the bottom of the pulley. After installing a new belt, run the engine for about 5 minutes and recheck the belt tension.
  4. Connect negative (-) terminal cable to battery.
  5. Perform on-vehicle inspection. See «ON-VEHICLE TESTING»(ref-4364-S36055401392000062100000).

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove battery clamp cover.
  2. Remove air cleaner cover. Remove No. 2 air cleaner hose.
  3. Loosen belt tension by turning drive belt tensioner counterclockwise, and remove drive belt.
  4. Remove engine under cover. Remove oil pan protector.
  5. Disconnect power steering oil cooler pipe from oil pan.
  6. Remove power steering pump. See «POWER STEERING PUMP»(ref-4976-S06459960822000073100000) .
  7. Disconnect generator connector. Remove rubber cap and nut, and disconnect generator wire. Disconnect generator wire clamp from generator.
  8. Remove bolt and clamp, disconnect 2 oil cooler pipes from bracket.
  9. Remove bolt, nut, bracket and generator.
  10. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Note. Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove engine undercover.
  3. Remove drive belt. Loosen the belt tension by turning the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise, and remove the drive belt.
  4. On A/T models, remove the bolt and pipe clamp. Disconnect the 2 A/T oil cooler pipes from the generator.
  5. Remove generator. Disconnect the generator connector. Remove the cap and nut, and disconnect the generator wire. Remove the bolt, and disconnect transmission oil cooler pipe bracket from the generator. Remove the nut and generator.

Install generator in reverse order of removal. Install the generator and transmission oil cooler bracket with the bolt and nut. Torque: 37 Nm (380 kgfcm, 27 ft lbf). Perform on-vehicle inspection. See ON-VEHICLE TESTING .
