SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. POWER MIRROR CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION This system has the following functions: automatic glare-resistant electrochromic (EC) mirror function, auto electric retract function, reverse shift-linked function, electrical remote control function, memory function and mirror heater function.
  2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENT Component Function Vertical mirror motor Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly and adjusts the mirror surface position vertically. Horizontal mirror motor Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly and adjusts the mirror surface position horizontally. Power retract mirror motor Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly, and retracts and returns the outer rear view mirrors. Mirror heater Receives signal from the A/C amplifier assembly and operates the mirror heater. EC mirror cell Varies reflection rate of the mirror through function of EC elements. Outer mirror retract switch Retracts and returns the outer rear view mirrors. Mirror retract and return signals are sent to the outer mirror control ECU assembly from the main body ECU (passenger side junction block assembly). Mirror select switch Consists of R and L switches. One must be chosen to operate the outer mirror switch assembly. Outer mirror control ECU assembly Sends operation signals to each motor. Mirror adjust switch Mirror R and L signals are sent to the outer mirror control ECU assembly from the mirror select switch. After selecting the R or L switch, the right, left, up and down control switches can be operated to change the angle of the mirror. Mirror position sensor Detects the mirror surface position. This data is detected by the outer mirror control ECU assembly. Seat memory switch When the seat memory M1, M2 or M3 switch are pressed while the SET switch is being pressed, or M1, M2 or M3 switch is pressed within 3 seconds after the SET switch being pressed, a signal is input to the outer mirror control ECU assembly and the position control ECU and switch assembly, which records the mirror surface position. When the seat memory switch is pressed, a signal is input to the outer mirror control ECU assembly and sent to the position control ECU and switch assembly, which changes the mirror surface position to the recorded position.
  3. SYSTEM OPERATION The remote control mirror has the following features. Function Outline Power retract mirror function Retracts and returns the outer rear view mirrors when the outer mirror retract switch is pressed. AUTO power retract mirror function Retracts and returns the outer rear view mirror if any of the following signals are detected while the engine switch is off and the power retract mirrors have been set to AUTO using the satellite switch and multi information display. Manual lock/unlock Key-linked lock/unlock Wireless door lock/unlock Wireless 30 seconds auto lock Entry lock/unlock Smart 30 seconds auto lock Reverse shift-linked function of mirrors Directs the mirror surface downward to improve visibility when driving in reverse and all the conditions below are met: The engine switch is on (IG). Shift lever is moved to R. The mirror select switch is in the R or L position. Electrical remote control mirror function When the outer mirror switch assembly is operated, this function moves the mirror surface vertically or horizontally to enable the driver to attain an optimal mirror angle. Setting the mirror select switch to the R position operates the right mirror, and setting it to the L position operates the left mirror. Memory and reactivation function Stores the adjusted mirror position in the outer mirror control ECU assembly. Automatic glare-resistant EC mirror function Reduce glare/reflection in mirror during nighttime driving for safe driving conditions. Glare/reflection from vehicle headlights behind could blind driver and cause dangerous driving conditions. Mirror heater function Automatically turns on mirror heater when the rear window defogger switch is turned on, or the wipers are operated automatically or manually. The rear window defogger and mirror heater automatically turn off after 15 min. Rear window defogger and mirror heater automatically turn off after 15 min.

This circuit detects the conditions of the outer mirror switch assembly.

The outer mirror switch assembly sends information about the operating condition of the mirror switch (switch input signals) through the multiplex communication line. Then the switch input signals are sent to the outer mirror control ECU assembly. Mirror adjustment is controlled by the outer mirror control ECU assembly.

DESCRIPTION

The mirror heater operation is linked with the defogger system or wiper and washer system.

Defogger linked function

When the window defogger switch, which is built into the multi-display assembly*1 or integration control and panel*2, is operated, the operation signals are transmitted to the A/C amplifier assembly through AVC-LAN and BEAN. When the A/C amplifier assembly receives the signals, it turns on the heater mirror relay to operate the mirror heater. When the defogger switch is turned off, the mirror heater also turns off simultaneously.

Wiper linked function

  1. When the rain sensor detects raindrops while the windshield wiper switch assembly is in the AUTO position, the rain sensor sends a wiper operation request signal to the A/C amplifier assembly. When the A/C amplifier assembly receives the wiper operation request signal, it controls the heater mirror relay to operate the mirror heater. After the request signal from the rain sensor stops and 15 minutes elapses, the A/C amplifier assembly turns off the heater mirror relay to turn off the mirror heater.
  2. When the windshield wiper switch assembly is moved to the INT, LO, HI or MIST position, the windshield wiper switch assembly sends a switch position signal to the A/C amplifier. When the A/C amplifier receives this signal, it controls the heater mirror relay to operate the mirror heater. After the switch position signal from the windshield wiper switch assembly stops and 15 minutes elapses, the A/C amplifier assembly turns off the heater mirror relay to turn off the mirror heater.

Note. The power mirror control system is a part of the multiplex communication system. This system features shared communication wiring that reduces the wiring complexity of the communication lines. The first step in any repair is to confirm the proper operation of the communication system. Proceed with troubleshooting after the communication has been verified (See MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ). The mirror heater operation is linked wit the defogger system or wiper and washer system. Confirm that these systems are operating normally before starting the inspection.

The circuit detects the conditions of the outer mirror retract switch built into the outer mirror switch assembly. The main body ECU (cowl side junction block RH) detects the operating condition of the outer mirror retract switch. The main body ECU (cowl side junction block RH) sends the outer mirror retract switch condition signal to the outer mirror control ECU assembly via the multiplex communication line.

When the outer mirror control ECU receives an entry lock/unlock signal*1 or wireless lock/unlock signal*2 and AUTO electric retract ON signal from the combination meter assembly via the multiplex communication line while the outer mirror retract switch is in the retract position, the outer mirror control ECU assembly operates the retract motors built into the outer rear view mirrors to retract or return the mirrors.

  2. *2: When lock/unlock using the wireless door lock system

Scheme 56

Scheme 56: WIRING DIAGRAM

The outer mirror control ECU assembly monitors each seat memory switch status. If a seat memory switch is operated, the outer mirror control ECU assembly sends the seat memory switch signal to the position control ECU and switch assembly through the multiplex communication line. Based on the seat memory switch signal, the position control ECU and switch assembly sends back a mirror position storage signal to the outer mirror control ECU assembly through the multiplex communication line. When the outer mirror control ECU assembly receives the mirror position storage signal, the mirror surface position will be memorized based on the mirror position signal sent from the mirror position sensors built into each outer mirror actuator assembly.

HINT

Each outer mirror actuator assembly has a built-in mirror vertical position sensor and mirror horizontal position sensor.

Note. The mirror surface position will not be memorized if the engine switch is not on (IG). The mirror surface position will not be stored if the seat memory SET switch and 2 or more of the seat memory switches (for example, M1 switch and M2 switch) are pressed simultaneously. If the operation fails, the mirror surface position will not be memorized until the seat memory SET switch is turned off. The mirror surface position will not be memorized when the mirror is operated manually.

If any of seat memory switches M1, M2 or M3 is pressed, the outer mirror control ECU assembly detects the seat memory switch status and sends the switch signal to the position control ECU and switch assembly through the multiplex communication line. The position control ECU and switch assembly operates the power seat motor to move the seat to the memorized position and then sends back a reproduction signal to the outer mirror control ECU assembly through the multiplex communication line. When the outer mirror control ECU assembly receives the reproduction signal, the ECU operates the vertical and horizontal motors built into each outer rear view mirror to adjust the mirror surface to the memorized position.
