- CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS HINT: In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency Where Road conditions Under what conditions? - INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Standard Voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step. NEXT: Go to next step

- DESCRIPTION Data of the system can be read from the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. Therefore, when the system seems to be malfunctioning, use Techstream to check for a malfunction and repair it.
- CHECK DLC3 The vehicle's ECM uses ISO 9141-2 communication protocol. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 9141-2 format. If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle. If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST
- USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Monitor the ECU data by following the prompts on the tester screen. HINT: The Techstream has a "Snapshot" function which records the monitored data. Refer to the Techstream operator's manual for further details.
- DATA LIST HINT: Using the Data List displayed on the Techstream, the value of the switch, sensor, actuator, etc. can be read without part removal. Reading the Data List as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to shorten labor time. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). - ACTIVE TEST HINT: Performing the Active Test using the Techstream allows the relay, VSV, actuator, etc. to be operated without part removal. Performing the Active Test as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to shorten labor time. It is possible to display the Data List during the Active Test. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream. ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
- CHECK POWER MIRROR SWITCH OPERATION Remote control The mirror adjust switch can control the adjustment axis of the mirror surface. Reverse-linked This function tilts the mirror surface downward to improve the visibility when driving in reverse, provided that all the conditions given below have been met. Engine switch is on (IG). Shift lever is moved to "R".
- CHECK MEMORY SWITCH OPERATION Memory Memorizes the positions when all conditions below have been met and the M1, M2 or M3 button is pushed while the SET switch is pushed or M1, M2 or M3 switch is pressed within 3 seconds after the SET switch is released. Engine switch is on (IG). When the memory setting is completed, the buzzer will sound for 0.5 seconds. Recall If the button M1, M2 or M3 is pressed when all conditions below have been met, it recalls the positions. Engine switch is on (IG). Shift position is "P" (A/T models). Vehicle speed is 3 km (1.9 mph) or less (M/T models). Parking brake lever is pulled (M/T models). If the button M1, M2 or M3 is pressed when all conditions below have been met and within 30 seconds, it recalls the positions. Engine switch is on (IG). Driver door is opened.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Note. The power mirror control system is a part of the multiplex communication system. This system features shared communication wiring that reduces the wiring complexity of the communication lines. The first step in any repair is to confirm the proper operation of the communication system. Proceed with troubleshooting after the communication has been verified (See MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM . Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ). The mirror heater operation is liked with the defogger system or wiper and washer system. Confirm that these systems are operating normally before starting the inspection.
